Premier League News: Tonge’s future uncertain, Heskey praises Nathan Delfouneso and Nicklas Bendtner to undergo groin scan

Tonge’s future:

Michael Tonge currently plays for Stoke City and has just made 14 appearances so far in his two years at the club. He is obviously frustrated with the lack of opportunities given to him at the Britannia Stadium, and confessed that he may move from his current club. He spent the last season on loan at Preston North End and then at Derby County, and admitted that he may fancy a move away from the club.

He stated that he is in a strange situation at the club, but is hopeful that when he is fully fit for the new season, he will talk to the manager. He explained that although he will love playing for Stoke in the new season, it may be highly unlikely, and might play for some other side. He added that he was not complaining and was being practical about the situation. For the time being, he was aiming to be fully fit for the new season, and then wait for things to happen. Stoke play Wolverhampton Wanderers away on 14th August.

Heskey predicts bright future for Delfouneso:

Nathan Delfouneso is the U-19 captain for England when they play in the European Championship in France, starting from the 18th of July. The English national team coach Fabio Capello hinted that the new blood will most probably take over the team, after the veteran’s disappointed performance in 2010 FIFA World Cup. Heskey was one of those failures, but praised Delfouneso for being extremely talented and an exciting young talent, who can make it to the senior England team. Delfouneso has already shined for his club, having scored twice in the Europa League as well as scoring his first top flight goal against Portsmouth away last season. He has also featured regularly in the U-21 team and has scored nine times for his U-19 outfit.

Emile Heskey is impressed with the striker’s performance, and stated that he has done fairly well for his age. He explained that although he may not have had many opportunities to play, he still is an outstanding prospect, and impressed every time he played for his club or country. He added that Nathan is a good player for the future and was happy that he will learn having committed himself to the England outfit at such a tender age. He commented that Delfounese has a bright future and will enjoy a great career, provided he keeps playing like he is. He advised Nathan to pounce on any opportunity he gets and was content that Nathan has the capability to make the most of these opportunities.

Bendtner to undergo groin injury scan:

Bad news for Arsenal fans, as Nicklas Bendtner, the Danish Hitman, has failed to recover from a persistent groin injury that troubled him throughout the 2009/10 season. Bendtner even underwent a surgery back in November 2009, but has failed to fully recover from it. He therefore had to sit out towards the end of the Premier league season and also could not play in the opening match of the World Cup. Denmark failed to advance into Round two of the tournament, as they crashed out from group stages. Bendtner confessed that he is still haunted by the injury, even after complete rest after the World Cup. He is looking forward to coming back from holidays and undergoing a complete scan in order to completely eradicate the problem.

He stated that he felt pain in his groin, and it did not improve even when he was resting in his holidays. He hoped that it will get better when he will take a break from football, and will rest, but was disappointed that it did not improve. He added that he had been in complete touch with his club, Arsenal, and will undergo a major scan, once he is back in England. He explained that his entire body will be scanned to find out the possible reasons for the problem and was hopeful that the problem is sorted out soon. He was frustrated with the fact that he still feels pain and felt dejected as to when he will fully resume playing football.
