Premier League Player Ratings: Manchester United v Arsenal – Part 2
In part two we look at the away team ratings. This time around it was Arsenal who lost on the road. However, there were some really praiseworthy performances such as, by the Arsenal goal keeper, Szczesny.
Here are the player ratings for Arsenal.
ARSENAL
Wojciech Szczesny: 6.5
The young goalkeeper was thrown in at the deep end by manager Arsene Wenger and the boy responded with an assured display. His save from Anderson was his highlight but he was comfortable with his catching. There wasn’t too much
he could have done with the goal.
Bacary Sagna: 6.5
Easily the most comfortable of Arsenal’s back four, Sagna dealt well with what was thrown at him and was found near the opposition box quite often. He ran his socks off but failed to inspire his time to any kind of a revival.
Laurent Koscielny: 6.0
Was given the responsibility of keeping Rooney quiet and he did not disappoint. Apart from a few occasions, the youngster did reasonable well to deny United a second goal.
Sebastien Squillaci: 6.0
The experienced centre half, read the situation early on a number of occasions. The Frenchman made some vital interceptions but the Vibrancy of United’s midfield runners did catch him off guard on a few occasions
Gael Clichy: 6.0
A slightly sub-standard night for the Frenchman. He looked below par from his usual high standards. He stopped Nani on a few occasions but failed to deal with the threat posed by Rafael and Nani together. He gave away the penalty
but was lucky the Rooney’s shot was high and handsome.
Samir Nasri: 6.0
Arsenal’s player of the season so far was anonymous in the first half. He didn’t get enough on the ball but looked dangerous when he had the ball at his feet. Improved in the 2nd half but failed to inspire his team like
he has so often done this season.
Alex Song: 6.5
He was full of running and never turned away from a tackle. The Cameroon international was solid throughout and battled hard for his team. His all-action display failed to rub off on to his more attacking team mates. Didn’t deserve
to be on the losing side.
Jack Wilshere: 6.0
He could be given a rating of 6.5 only because he is 18. It’s hard to believe that he is now a regular for the gunners. He looked assured on the ball, apart from a few missed place passes early on, the youngster was up for the
fight. He showed bags of energy and always looked to play the ball forward.
Tomas Rosicky: 5.5
The captain for the night failed to impose his authority on the game. Playing in the vital No.10 position, Rosicky had to be the creative force which he miserably failed to be. The game seemed to bypass him at times and was substituted
on the hour mark for Cesc Fabregas.
Andrei Arshavin: 5.0
Another hugely disappointing performance by the Russian. He never looked threatening and by the look of it, he seems to have lost his ability to glide past players. The pace of the game seemed too much for him as he continued to
annoy large sections of away fans.
Marouane Chamakh: 5.0
The occasion was too big for the young centre forward. He started the game brightly and looked agile in the early exchanges. He won a header in front of Vidic, which went straight in to the arms of the goal keeper. However, he
failed to make an impression on either of the two United centre backs after that.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Cesc Fabregas: 6.0
It looked too big a task even for him to get his team back into the game. He did not do anything special during his 25 minutes on the pitch.
Robin van Persie: 5.5
He is back from an injury but is far from his best. Will need more game time to reach peak form.
Theo Walcott: 6.5
Replaced the ordinary Arshavin in the 77th minute and looked energetic. Had a couple of shots on goal and put in some decent deliveries.
