If you have read the first part of this article then you would have realised that Manchester Untied outclasses the Black Cats.
Sunderland had no answer to United’s dominance and were second best all over the pitch and had it not been for their luck and Craig Gordon, it could well have been four or five nil.
However, we analyse the performance of the Sunderland players in our Premier League ratings part 2.
SUNDERLAND
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Gordon-c9476: 7.0
There was not too much he could have done to prevent the goals but he still managed to produced some excellent stops to keep the score line respectable. His defenders were caught out of position far too many times, which allowed United players to have shots
on goal on a number of occasions. He did his job more than effectively.
Ahmed El Mohamady: 5.5
The wing back was asked to play more defensively and he simply could not adapt to a slightly different role. He gave Giggs too much space and time on the ball which allowed the veteran to pick out passes at will.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nedum-Onuoha-c27453: 5.0
He must shoulder the bulk of the responsibility for Berbatov’s first goal and he was not sure at times of whether to close down or back off the United midfield runners. He clearly seemed to miss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-c21860 Cattermole’s presence in the midfield.
Anton Ferdinand: 5.0
He has failed to match his brothers’ achievements in football and on Sunday, it was no different. While Ferdinand Sr. was solid and commanding, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Ferdinand-c6260 was all over the place and failed to keep a check on either Berbatov or Rooney. For the second
year running, he has deflected the ball into the back of his own net against Manchester United.
Phillip Bardsley: 5.5
Injury crisis meant that he too was played out of position and it clearly showed that the former Manchester United academy graduate was uncomfortable on the left hand side. He was booked for a lunge on Berbatov after the Bulgarian had bamboozled him with
a clever back flick.
Steed Malbranque: 5.5
Malbranque did not look his usual self, drifted inside to get involved in the game and consequently gave the ball away far too often. Looked out of ideas and faded away as the game went on.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102: 6.0
One of Sunderland’s better players on the night as he looked comfortable in possession and used to ball reasonably well. However, he was caught out off position plenty of times and failed to do his defensive duties.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-Riveros-c9591: 5.5
He was outrun and outclassed by Anderson almost all match and Riveros failed miserably to stop United’s midfield. However, he was comfortable in possession and moved the ball with confidence.
Bolo Zenden: 6.0
He showed experience with some good interceptions and made some neat passes. He failed to get himself involved as much as his manager would have liked but the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 man did test van der Sar with a stinging long range shot.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358: 5.0
Sunderland’s star striker failed miserably to make any sort of an impression. During his time on the pitch, he roamed around the pitch searching for his position. He played on the left and upfront but was not too sure about it. He was substituted after 69
minutes and being anonymous for most of the second half.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Asamoah-Gyan-c6791: 5.5
The class of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 and Vidic was too much for the Ghanaian. He worked as hard as he could but unfortunately to no avail. His only chance of the game came in the second half when his blasted his volley over the bar from a tight angle.
SUBSTITUIONS:
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Meyler-c10556: 5.0
Came on for the disappointing Darren bent but did nothing to improve on his predecessors showing.
Jordan Cook: 6.0
He looked lively in his little stint after replacing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steed-Malbranque-c33957.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcos-Angeleri-c23779: N/A
Replaced Zenden late on in the game.
