Premier League Predictions: Game Week 15 – Part 3
In part 3 we look at the 2 matches to be played on Super Sunday as well as the one of the last matches from Saturday. We will start off with our game at Molineux.
Wolves v Sunderland
Prediction: 1-1
Wolves are on a run of shocking results but a lot can be associated to their fixture program. They played Manchester City, United, Arsenal and Chelsea in consecutive matches. However, they have played a lot better than their results suggests. 5 defeats in
6 is not what Mick McCarthy would have liked and their last weekend’s home defeat against Blackpool would have left the Irish manager furious.
In contrast Sunderland have not lost in their last 4 and they have started playing some really good football. Sunderland would love to inflict more pain on Mick McCarthy and would see this as a good time to play a Wolves side starved of any confidence. They
will also be without their inspirational skipper Carl Henry, who is suspended for this game.
Wolves, however, would look at this game as a chance for them to get their season back on track, they will be happy to even get a draw from this game. A win, however, would be priceless.
Newcastle v Chelsea
Prediction: 1-3
Newcastle were fourth in the table not long ago, but 1 point from 3 games have seen them drop to 10th in the table. Along with Wigan, Newcastle have been the most difficult team to predict this season. The only reliable player in their squad is
Andy Carroll. He will again be a handful against a week Chelsea defence.
Chelsea would probably welcome back Jose Bosingwa to the starting eleven but doubts remain over the fitness of Alex with John Terry still missing out. Newcastle have some defensive problems of their own and will be without Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson
due to suspensions. This will encourage the likes of Drogba, Anelka and Malouda to get back to scoring goals.
Frank Lampard and Essien are two other influential players missing out and Newcastle would imagine that it is probably a good time to play the champions. Chelsea have lost 3 of their last 4 Premier League matches. Didier Drogba seems to have lost his touch
since his infection of malaria and Florent Malouda is finding it hard to do all on his own.
Chelsea would go into this match looking to secure all three points and manager Carlo Ancelotti would be backing his star striker, Drogba, to bring home all three points.
Tottenham v Liverpool
Prediction: 2-0
This is the big game of the weekend and there are so many interesting points to note here. Statistically Liverpool are the in-form team and have picked up 13 points from their last 6 matches. This is only bettered by Manchester United. However, Spurs are
playing the better football and their cracking win over Arsenal last weekend makes them favourites for this game.
Liverpool will still be without skipper Steven Gerrard and Spurs will have a late fitness test for Rafael Van der Vaart.
Roy Hodgson’s away record is shocking to say the least and Liverpool play defensive, negative and abysmal football away from home. Tottenham, on the other hand play fast attractive football, in particular at White Hart Lane.
It is interesting to note that Tottenham played Werder Bremen in midweek and Liverpool had a week on the training ground. Last time Tottenham beat Inter in the Champions League at home, they lost to Bolton in the next Premier League fixture.
Liverpool would be fresher of the two teams and would like to make use of it. Both teams possess some quality players. However the difference lies in the quality of managers. There is little hope for Liverpool from this fixture, even against a tired Tottenham
team, until and unless Roy Hodgson decides to change his negative style of play away from home.
