Premier League Predictions: Match Week 23 – Part 3
As always our part 3 consists of some big matches and this week it’s no different either: Two derby predictions and then the clash of the weekend between Spurs and the Red devils.
Sunderland vs. Newcastle United
This is more than just a derby for Sunderland; it’s a revenge mission for Steve Bruce and his players. Sunderland were torn to shreds at St. James Park earlier in the season when the two sides met. 5-1 was the final score line and bragging rights have been
with the Magpies since then.
Sunderland have done amazingly this season; 33 points from 22 league games is quite an achievement. They are only 2 points behind Champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, having played a game more. This is indeed a tribute to this Sunderland team.
Newcastle shocked everyone when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 felt great but the defeat to Stevenage was embarrassing.
Alan Pardew could do with the return of Andy Carroll but it is highly unlikely that their star man will start this one. Leon Best scored a hatrick last time and is likely to retain his place in the team. This is a close one to call, as both have been matching
each other’s result for the past 5 Match weeks.
However, we believe Sunderland will be able to take revenge against their cross city rivals.
Prediction: 2-1
Liverpool versus Everton
If Kenny Dalglish did not previously know the scale of the task he has in hands, he certainly would have found out on Wednesday night at Bloomfield road. Liverpool are a team short of confidence and deprived of leadership.
Without http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 on the pitch, Liverpool look a little disjointed. However, if ever there was a man who could regroup this bunch of players and motivate them, it has to be Kenny Dalglish.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 looked a lot sharper against Blackpool and took his goal superbly. However, he will need more support from midfield and wide areas against the Toffees.
Everton, on the other hand, will come into this game high on confidence after beating high flying Tottenham Hotspur in their last league match. Everton will be without http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746) and Yakubu (on loan to Leicester).
David Moyes was at Bloomfield road to see Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Blackpool. He will be hoping for a similar result at anfield as well. However, we know that anfield will light up the moment Kenny Dalglish steps out of the tunnel. The atmosphere is sure
to be an enthralling one and that could prove to be decisive.
Prediction: 2-1
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nani-c27299 scored when Tottenham visited Old Trafford earlier in the season. He will be looking to make up for that this time around. Tottenham felt they were undone by poor refereeing decisions, otherwise
the result would have been a lot different.
However, they will get another chance on Sunday to hand Manchester United their first league defeat of the season. We all know how good Tottenham are going forward, and at White Hart Lane, they are capable of giving any defence a real pounding. Nevertheless,
they have their shortcomings, particularly in defence, as was exposed by Everton in their last game.
Manchester United have just walked up to the top of the table without really going into 2nd gear. They have gone about their business pretty calmly as others have faltered around them and as a result they see themselves comfortably sitting at
the top of the pile with quite a few points clear and a game in hand.
However, Tottenham looks like the only team at the moment which can give United a seriously tough time and their defence will be tested to the fullest. We have a sneaky feeling that this might just be the end of the great unbeaten run of Manchester United.
Prediction: 2-1
