Premier League Predictions: Match Week 24 – Part 3
As always, our part 3 consists of some big matches and this week it’s no different either; Aston Villa will put up a new look team against an expensively assembled Manchester City outfit, while Chelsea travel to Reebok to keep their slim title hopes alive.
First up, we are at Villa Park.
Aston Villa v Manchester City
Easily the most anticipated game of the weekend, thanks to the highly publicized transfer of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 from Sunderland to Aston Villa. Villa Park will be buzzing to see their new signings in action and with Bent in the side, there are goals in this team.
You are never too good to go down but Villa actually do have some top class players who can turn the game on their own. Apart from the goal scoring Bent, Villa have http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221 who can chip in with a few goals. However, their main task
will be to spot the clever runs of their new £18 million signing.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier is not under any more pressure of being sacked as his owners have backed him heavily in the transfer window. However, he will have no more excuses for not getting the results now. A draw here will be considered as a good start.
City’s defence will give Bent a testing debut as both Kompany and Toure have formed a formidable partnership at the back in recent weeks.
With City’s attacking ability, they will most likely get a goal or two but the crowd and the buzz of Villa Park can earn Gerard Houllier and his team at least a point.
Prediction: 1-1
Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 v West Brom
Blackburn have added a couple of players to their squad. Most notable addition is former Rovers favourite, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roque-Santa-Cruz-c31778. However, no one can guarantee that he will be an instant hit, as he hasn’t played enough football over the last year or so. Likewise,
their other new signing, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermaine-Jones-c18363, who has been snapped up on loan from Schalke, is an unknown player and we don’t know how he will perform in the Premier League.
West Brom need a good run of games to move clear of the relegation zone. Their first win after 5 consecutive defeats was priceless last week. However, Blackpool created at least a dozen good chances but West Brom survived and collected their first points
of 2011.
Defensively the Baggies are all over the place. They lack a leader and an organiser at the back. West Brom have a few injury worries for this game but they need to make sure that they don’t allow Blackburn to create loads of chances as they might not be
second time lucky in 7 days time.
This is a great opportunity for Steve Kean to take his side as high as 7th in the table but he’ll need all three points to do that.
Prediction: 2-1
Bolton Wanderers v Chelsea
This is a massive massive game for Carlo Ancelotti and his side. Bolton will be no easy run overs, although they are experiencing a bit of a slum, they will give http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 a real run for their money.
Chelsea beat Blackburn last weekend and thumped Ipswich in the FA Cup but Bolton will prove to be a tough nut to crack. Defensively they are sound and it won’t be easy for Drogba and Co.
Bolton have picked up a single point from their last four games and one major reason for that is the lack of form shown by their two front men, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Davies-c20716.
Chelsea will need to be at their very best to take home all three points and any of the three possible results have equal chance here. Therefore we bet safe and go for a draw and by this we mean the end of Chelsea's title challenge.
Prediction: 1-1
