Premier League Predictions: Wednesday 10/11/10
8 matches will be played tonight in the first midweek Premier League fixtures of this season. Last night, Tottenham were held 1-1 by Sunderland while Stoke overcame Birmingham in a thrilling encounter that finished 3-2.
The predictions for Wednesday night games are right here:
Aston Villa vs. Blackpool:
Blackpool always seem to make a bright start. Their players are always up for it and give their all right from the word go, however, in recent weeks; they have faded away as games have gone on.
Aston Villa is a team which will press them hard and will be able to pick them off when the Blackpool players go off the boil. Villa will again be without Gabby Agbonlahor and John Carew, while Blackpool will have most of their senior players available.
Villa will be relying on their star man Ashley Young to give them the much needed win. The Villains are now winless in 5 games which has put the manager Gerard Houllier under pressure. On the other hand, Blackpool will be looking to add some consistency
to their results and would be happy to avoid defeat.
Blackpool know only one way to play and they will come out with all of their guns blazing. This might just suit Villa who will be able to hit them on the counter attack and we believe will knick all three points.
Prediction: 2-1
Chelsea vs. Fulham:
It came as a surprise when we saw Didier Drogba on the bench against Liverpool. Was he being rested for the game against Fulham? Surely not. However, if he was fit enough to play the second half of that game than he surely could have started and then be
substituted later and thus rested.
Nevertheless, that game has gone and it is rare that Chelsea lose two games in a row. Fulham are a strong unit but at Stamford Bridge, any result other than a Chelsea win would be considered a huge upset.
Fulham have been doing OK this season. They are playing like a Mark Hughes team plays, well organized, nothing too fancy and disciplined. Against Chelsea, Fulham have to be at their best to take something of this game. Mark Hughes has been unlucky with their
long term injury to star striker Bobby Zamora but he has now welcomed back Andy Johnson, who will give Fulham a new dimension. His pace could well be a handy asset to utilise late in the game.
Prediction: 2-0
Newcastle vs. Blackburn:
Newcastle is the team in form at the moment. Their confidence will be sky high after thrashing Sunderland in the derby and then coming away with all three points against Arsenal. However, their home form has been surprisingly ordinary. They have lost at
home to both Blackpool and Wigan.
Blackburn, on the other hand, are not the greatest of travellers. You would know what to expect from a Sam Allardyce team. This might just be a good time for Newcastle to get their home record back on track.
Andy Carroll was again superb at the weekend and is quickly becoming a major force in the Premier League. Newcastle look a good balanced outfit and we expect them to be pumped up against the Rovers who would be looking to surprise the Magpies. However, we
too will be surprised if Blackburn is able to get something from this game.
Prediction: 2-0
West Ham vs. West Brom:
West Brom has always looked good. They play as a team and look decent in all departments. This is a tricky fixture for them as West Ham would fancy all three points against the newly promoted side.
West Ham have improved as a team and started to play some good football. However, their problem remains the same, when things are not going their way the players lose their focus and look deprived of motivation.
Manager Avram Grant hasn’t done enough to win the fans over and needs to ask his team to give more when going forward. They need to go out with the mind set of winning the game. One win so far has seen them stay at the bottom of the table since the beginning
and unless they change their approach, it would be difficult to see them coming out of relegation zone any time soon.
Prediction: 2-2
