Premier League - Preview: Manchester City versus Everton
This weekend saw just two of nine games in the Barclays Premier League go ahead as the cold snap blankets itself all over Britain. So it’s a relief that Manchester City’s game against Everton hasn’t been called off and is going to go on as planned.
Manchester City can take advantage of the fact that there was so little action in the league in the previous days, as if they win they will go to the top of the league, jumping over Arsenal and United in the process. Going into Christmas as table toppers
is something City haven’t achieved for 81 years and it’d be a great morale boost for them if they could manage it, despite the fact that the other big teams will all have games in hand over City.
And Manchester City could well manage that with inspirational http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 Carlos Tevez returning to the side after handing in a transfer request, a plea that is shrouded in uncertainty. It shows the immense presence Tevez has in the City side that they are willing
to play him again despite his questionable commitment to the club. But the recent results have proven that they are more than just a one-man team, with Yaya Toure and David Silva playing at the top of their game, controlling the game from back to front as
they did last time out against West Ham United at Upton Park. Yaya Toure was enormous in that game, he was involved in everything good for City and he even had a big hand in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Green's own goal, it was Yaya’s run that tore the defence apart and then his
shot cannoned off of the woodwork only to hit Green’s back and go straight back in.
Silva demonstrated his own prowess with a defence splitting pass to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adam-Johnson-c3537, a pass which Johnson was all too happy to latch on to and send into the goal. Certainly City’s recent record is admirable, they are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League
games, but goals have certainly been hard to come by for Roberto Mancini’s men, and that is a growing concern.
Everton, last weekend played out a 0-0 draw at home to Wigan, which only again highlights the fact how they have struggled to score goals, with both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208 admitting that they have been underperforming this season as well as under
firing.
But David Moyes’ men are unbeaten in their last six away games in the league proving they have tough mettle, but they have been drawing too many games for comfort. And that has left them hovering just two points above the drop zone, so you can understand
why three points tonight are of the utmost importance. A win will take Everton just a single spot higher in the table even though they will have had played a game more than the rest of the teams in and around them, which just points out the problems at Goodison
Park.
Certainly both will have a go at it, and both teams need victories for their own individual reasons. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 wants to guide his team to the summit of the league while Moyes wants to push away from the drop zone. But you just feel with the game at Eastlands,
Manchester City will be too hot to handle for Everton, even in this blistering cold weather.
