Premier League Round Up: Arsenal and Aston Villa – 2 February 2011
Arsenal
Arsenal defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 for the remainder of the season. The Scottish Champions were in desperate need of a new centre-back, following injuries to their first and second choice
defenders.
Bartley had just returned from his impressive loan spell with Championship club Sheffield United, where he played as a first choice player. The player made 23 appearances in his six months with the Blades and has now joined the
Scottish Premier League Champions until May. The 19-year-old defender moved to the London based club on 31 January, signing his first professional contract with the club. Bartley joined Arsenal in the summer of 2007 from Premier League club Bolton Wanderers.
The player made a total of 35 appearances for Sheffield United spanning across his two loan terms and has played for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 U-16, U-17 and U-19 sides in his short career.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953. The manager has ruled out any signings to replace the 39-year-old and he wants him to play for
a few more seasons.
Friedel’s appearance against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 1 February made him Villa’s oldest ever player, as he surpassed the record set by legend Ernie Callaghan in 1947. However, the goalkeeper will serve out his contract
by the end of the current season and Houllier is all set to sit down and have talks with the veteran over a new contract by the end of the current month.
"Brad should be a role model. He's a top-class professional. He looks after himself, he trains hard and does even more in terms of yoga and things. He loves the game and wants to win. He's also a very reassuring figure in the dressing
room because he's consistent," stated the Aston Villa manager.
Friedel was at the receiving end after a 3-1 loss to Manchester United, where striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 scored a wonderful brace. There was nothing the goalkeeper could have done to stop the goals, as they were nearly unstoppable.
