Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger was delighted with his team’s performance against Wigan Athletic at home. The Gunners managed an easy 3-0 win over Latics on 22 January. It took a brilliant hat trick from Dutch forward Robin Van
Persie to seal all three points for the Gunners and the manager was delighted to keep their title bid intact. Wigan were reduced to 10 men during the match and Arsenal took full advantage of the situation.
Wenger claimed that the team has now finally started to play like their usual self and expects them to keep the bond together for the remaining season.
"It was a good team performance overall. The players were a bit frustrated at half-time as they did not take their chances, but during that first half, we played outstanding football. We feel stronger and stronger in every single
game,” stated the Gunners coach.
“It is interesting the chance we have in front of us because for me the way we play is fantastic to watch. Let's just keep going," explained the manager.
Arsenal’s win has taken them back to just two points behind leaders Manchester United, who thwarted Birmingham City with a 5-0 victory on Saturday at Old Trafford. United now have to play Blackpool in mid-week that would finally
level them in terms of matches played with Arsenal. A win would take them 5 points clear while a draw would make matters even more interesting.
Aston Villa
Npower Championship side Watford have snapped up Aston Villa youngster http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andreas-Weimann-c5768 on a short loan term, which would keep him at the club until the remainder of the current season. The striker was just superb while playing
against Burton Albion a week back. The Hornets manager Malky Mackay was present in the match and was delighted to see the talent of the youngster.
Villa have no place for the U-21 player, as his last appearance came against West Ham United as a substitute in the first match of the season. The player then suffered an ankle injury in the match and could not make any more appearances.
Aston Villa boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier, however, has plans for the future and has the choice of calling back the 19-year-old on a 24-hour notice.
Villa managed a superb 1-0 win over heavyweights Manchester City, when newly signed striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 scored on his debut for the Villans. City could not come back from the goal and slipped to third spot, following Arsenal’s
3-0 win over Wigan.
