Premier League Round Up: Arsenal
Arsenal starlet http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463 has claimed he is well aware of his defensive responsibilities following a shift in his positional play this season.
The 18 year old, who climbed up the ranks at Arsenal, started his career as an attacking midfielder and his debut position was as a right attacking midfielder in Arsenal’s 4-3-3 formation. At that position, Wilshere was effective, as he was a constant supplier
of long and short balls for the attackers. However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has now added another responsibility on the youngster and that is to act as a cover up for the back four.
Wilshere now plays in a much deeper role, a position which has tested his defensive qualities as well. The player claimed that the new added responsibility has made him recognise strengths he didn’t know he possessed.
Wilshere explained that the defensive position will help him since he'll be able to work on both the attacking and defensive forms of the game. The player labelled his new position of being a box to box player, where he runs back and forth between the two
boxes to attack and defend.
“Perhaps at the start of the season I was holding back a bit, getting to know the role, but recently I've been getting forward more often - I got that goal against Aston Villa and I'd like to score a few more now,” stated the Youngster.
The player added that the manager helped him realise the weaknesses, which were all on the defensive sides. The manager therefore asked Wilshere to work on the heading abilities along with tackling, which has really helped him groom his overall game.
"Certain things come naturally and tackling wasn't one of them, I'd sometimes go a bit over the top when I was younger. Everyone's going to get some wrong through - I certainly did against Birmingham, but it's getting better and in the position I play it's
an important side of the game," stated the 18 year old midfielder.
Wilshere has all the makings of being the next big thing in midfield department of English Football. With most of the so-called Golden Generation nearing their retirement years, it would be upto youngsters like Wilshere to step up and replace the likes of
