Premier League Round Up: Aston Villa and Birmingham City - 13 Jan 2011
Aston Villa
Aston Villa have rejected a possible move for goalkeeper Joe http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lewis-c22173, who handed his transfer request this season. Peterborough wanted to sign the U-21 player, but Aston Villa would let go of the shot stopper only when the price
is right.
"The boy has been away with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, he's played for the Under-21s and has played 150 games for us. If they come back with a sensible offer we will let him go. If not he will stay here. Since then I've had two more bids from Premier
League clubs which we have rejected. I've no problem with Joe, he has asked for a transfer which I understand but we need to see some sensible money," stated the Aston Villa representative.
Birmingham City
Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish was not happy with the way his side performed against West Ham United in the Carling Cup. Despite having a one man advantage over the Hammers in the second half, West Ham went on to score the
winning goal, thanks to a howler from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ben-Foster-c7445. Carlton Cole managed a weak shot on target and the former Manchester United keeper could not control it, letting the ball fumble through his arms and into the goal. The manager was absolutely furious as he
witnessed the incident, as it may cost them a place in the Carling Cup final.
The manager claimed that Foster had apologized for his mistake and admitted that it was his fault. McLeish added that he wants the player to learn from his mistake and keep on saving for them like he has in the past. It was Foster’s
brilliant performance that led to the side's 1-0 victory against the leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
Meanwhile, Birmingham were forced to defend for most of the match after the 14th minute goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-Bowyer-c21864. McLeish was also unhappy over the fact that his side was denied a penalty claim. The manager stated he had
watched the video footage of the game a lot of times and saw no other way around it.
Birmingham head onto a derby match against Aston Villa, in the Premier League, on the weekend. Aston Villa have always been the bigger team in the region, but Birmingham have started to step out of that shadow. A win would mean
a lot for the City fans, as it would give them bragging rights for the remainder of the season. However, should the Blues lose, the Villans would prove their superiority in the midlands region.
