Premier League Round Up: Birmingham City - 11 January 2011
Birmingham City manager, Alex McLeish wants his side to focus on winning the Carling Cup after having reached its semifinals. The manager aims to bring in some silverware this season and in turn win the heart of the fans.
City, who have not featured in any cup final since a decade take on West Ham United today, with the first leg being played at Upton park. An interesting fact about this fixture is that the current owners of West Ham United, David
Sullivan and David Gold, were former owners of Birmingham City.
Aston Villa was considered the stronger team of Midlands, but City now aim to get out of their shadow and make some history of their own. Meanwhile, McLeish looks to do enough damage to West Ham United so that the home leg becomes
pointless. However, that may be easier said than done, as West Ham United just defeated current Premier league table tops Manchester United 4-0 to reach the semifinals stage.
"It is a big challenge for us. The fans are craving a bit of success at this club. We will do our very best to put a smile on their faces. We will be facing our former owners and football throws up these quirky challenges. We will
hopefully put one over on our old bosses,” stated the Birmingham Coach.
McLeish, who has guided former clubs http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 and Motherwell to silverware, aims to get his hands on the first English trophy and he labelled it as a huge achievement for his managerial career, should he manage to capture it. McLeish

The Scottish manager heads into a tough week as apart from the Carling Cup semifinal, City host archrivals Aston Villa in a derby match on Sunday. Nothing less than comprehensive wins would be expected by the City fans from their
beloved club and McLeish vows to deliver that this week.
