Premier League Round Up: Birmingham City & Blackburn Rovers – 3 February 2011
Birmingham City
Birmingham City manager, Alex McLeish expects his side to perform well as they did in Cup competitions in the Premier League. Birmingham have started to gain form in the New Year as the side has managed back-to-back wins in the
Carling Cup and the FA Cup, scoring three times on both occasions. Needless to say, their league form is far from being noteworthy, as the side is currently ranked 17th in the Premier League. The side lost 5-0 to Manchester United a week back, but
has bounced back with a 2-2 draw against neighbours Manchester City.
The manager expects the side to follow their Cup form in the Premier League as well, with the help of the new acquisitions in the January transfer window.
"The target for us is to get up that table. A couple of wins and cup-like performances will do nicely. The factor that should register with the players is the confidence that has been gained from the cup performances. We want to
make it as much of a nightmare for the opposition as we can. Maybe now we've got more of a potent mix up front we can have a right go," stated the Birmingham manager.
Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauro-Formica-c24972 to great Argentinean striker Gabriel Batistuta. The 22-year-old has been signed from Batistuta’s former club Newell Old Boys, in a 3.5-million-pound deal.
The player was all set to join Monaco before Rovers snatched him and the manager is delighted to have him on hand.
Kean stated that he had to use the services of Paraguayan striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roque-Santa-Cruz-c31778 to lure the 22-year-old over to the Lancashire town club.
"I've seen him a number of times and he reminds me of a young Batistuta. He twists, he turns, he can score with left foot, his right foot, he can play as a main striker or even wide or in the hole. He's an all-round attacking player
and probably the most exciting, and one of the best, young players in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841,” stated the Blackburn Manager.
The Rovers boss added that Formica received an international cap from former manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chile-c2871, which shows the talent of the forward.
