Premier League Round Up: Chelsea – 11 January 2011
Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins believes that manager Carlo Ancelotti has what it takes to turn things around at the club.
It is being argued that the reason behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s current dip in form is the sacking of Ray Wilkins, which took place two months ago. The side has fallen down to 5th spot after making an impressive start to the season
and Ancelotti is currently aiming to remain in the Top 4. Their recent dip has led to them being 9 points behind Manchester United, but Wilkins argued that Didier Drogba’s lack of form has been the major reason. Also, the assistant added that no other players
stepped up to perform in the absence of Drogba and for some odd reason, all the players are scared of playing a football match.
"When I watch them play there's a lack of confidence there from a few of the players that shouldn't really be the case because they are top quality players, and I'm sure they will get back to the standards that they have performed
at. It's been very disappointing. Carlo's obviously been manager of AC Milan for eight years, therefore that does come with a lot of pressure so Carlo is used to the pressure that comes with big jobs,” stated the former assistant coach.
Wilkins added that the biggest enemy of the club currently is not the media but the attitude of the players. The players have to start acting like Champions and should give their 100% on the pitch, which, frankly, is lacking from
every player wearing the Chelsea shirt.
He explained that Ancelotti is one of those coaches who may look soft and laid back on the outside, but feel disturbed every time their side underperforms. However, Wilkins backed Ancelotti as the perfect man to get Chelsea back
to their winning ways, owing to the Italian’s experience in the field.
