Premier League Round Up: Chelsea - 4th January 2011
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been unfortunate to miss each and every Champions league group stage fixture this season but has vowed to aid his side when the tournament restarts in February.
Lampard missed major part of the current season owing to a number of injuries. The player was suffering from Hernia but could not return despite having a successful operation. In mid-November, Lampard suffered injuries on his right
hamstring along with the left knee and has missed almost 4-5 months of football. However, the 31-year-old now wants to make up for the football time and help his side win their first UEFA Champions league trophy.
"When you get to the last 16, you feel the eyes of the world are watching it. It is what all the kids like, it is the ultimate club competition. I have a goal in a losing final and that is nice in a small way for me but that drives
you on more to want to be part of a winning final," stated the English midfielder.
Lampard scored the equalizing goal in the 2008 Champions league final against Manchester United but could not guide his side to their first European Cup. The side lost closely in a penalty shootout, where club captain John Terry
missed the winning penalty. Lampard still has those memories fresh in his mind and he would want to win the trophy before calling time on his career. With 20 assists and 27 goals in 52 appearances last season, Lampard is considered one of the finest midfielders
of his era and is all set to get his side out of their worst form in nearly 10 years.
Chelsea have a perfect chance to get back to their winning ways when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers away on Wednesday. The side is currently fifth in the league but with an unpredictable league this season, anything is possible
and Lampard just wants his side to keep performing at the highest level.
