Premier League Round Up: Fulham - 11 January 2011
Fulham manager Mark Hughes has full faith in his side and believes they will turn things around this season. The Cottagers head into an important relegation battle with Wigan Athletic this weekend wanting nothing less than a win
to get back into the top half of the table.
Despite not losing that many fixtures this season, Fulham have not experienced a victory in 8 matches, which has pulled them down into the relegation zone. Yet, they made an important come back by winning 2 of their 3 Premier League
fixtures and are currently 14th in the league.
"I've got a great group and I've been saying that for a long time. They want to do well, they want to progress, they want to get to the next level. That's part of my remit, that's why I came here. I fully expected them to do that.
We were compromised with missing personnel but since the West Ham game here we've really dug in and are looking forward to what's ahead of us," stated the Fulham coach.
The continuous stalemates were the major reason behind Hughes sacking as the Manchester City manager, last season. However, the expectations are different from that of Manchester City owners, as Fulham generally require a mid-table
finish. Hughes has done a decent job since his arrival to replace Roy Hodgson, but needs to match the success that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager brought to the club. Hodgson led Fulham to an inaugural Europa league final, where the side lost 2-1 to Atletico
Madrid in extra time. It was a dream run for the Cottagers, who defeated the likes of Hamburg and Juventus en route to the final.
Mark Hughes has become a draw specialist since his arrival at the club, as Fulham have drawn 10 out of their 21 fixtures in the Premier League so far. However, the reason behind the lack of wins has to be the unavailability of
Bobby Zamora, who suffered a double leg break in October. As a result, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zamora-c40983 has missed most of the season and he is expected to return by the end of February. With Zamora gone, none of Fulham’s other strikers stepped up to start scoring, which has led to
most matches being drawn and/or lost.
