Premier League Round Up: Fulham and Liverpool - 12 January 2011
Fulham
Australian shot stopper Mark Schwarzer looks to help his national side win the Asian Cup, but accepted that leaving his club Fulham at the time of crisis was not an easy decision to make. Fulham’s 8-match winless run has reduced
the side’s lead to just 1 point, above of the relegation zone and Fulham would be without their first choice goal keeper for the remainder of January. Also, if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746 reaches the final of the tournament, Schwarzer would be missing 4 Premier League fixtures.
"It is never ideal at this time of year to be missing Premier League games, especially with Fulham in the precarious situation they are in. In an ideal world I would like to have stayed but also play in this tournament. I want
to be in two places at once. It would have been great if there was a window we could play this tournament in but unfortunately that is not the case,” stated the 38-year-old.
Liverpool
Liverpool fans have been assured by the management that the compensation given to the departed manager Roy Hodgson would not hamper the transfer budget.
Hodgson, who lasted only 6 months out of the 3-year contract, was compensated for his pre-mature contract end, but the management has confirmed that the compensation has not been taken out of the transfer kitty. Hodgson would be
given a year’s salary as compensation, but club director Ian Ayre stated that it had nothing to do with the transfer budget.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 succumbed to a 1-0 loss to rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup third round fixture, last Sunday, but would be happy with the change in approach towards games. Last time these two sides met, Manchester United managed
a 3-2 victory, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 managing a brilliant hat trick. The side would now be looking to bounce back from that when they face Blackpool today. A win here would put their season back on track and would want to finish in the Top 6 at least. Liverpool
are currently 12th, but given the tight situation of the Premier League, anything is possible at the moment.
