Premier League Round Up: Liverpool - 4th January 2011
Liverpool shot stopper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 has played down speculations of his departure from the club, claiming that he has no thoughts of joining any other club in the near future. The 28-year-old shot stopper has been linked to a move
to arch rivals Manchester United for a deal worth 20 million pounds and the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid have also shown their interest. However, the Spanish International signed a six-year contract with the side last season and is highly unlikely to move
away from Anfield.
The player has maintained that he would want to see through the current contract, taking his services to 11 years with the Merseyside side club.
"I'm tired of rumours linking me with many teams in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. Stories of these offers are not true. I have not spoken to anyone - ever -
and I am 100 per cent a Liverpool player," stated the former Villarreal Man.
However, given the current condition of Liverpool in the Premier League, where the Reds have no chance of returning to the Top 4, Reina may well secure a move away. Liverpool have suffered even more since the arrival of former
Fulham coach Roy Hodgson and it is highly likely that the 63-year-old may be sacked in recent weeks. The side is currently behind the likes of Stoke City, Sunderland and Bolton Wanderers and managed the worst start in 57 years this season when they dropped
to the relegation zone.
Reina was the league’s best goalkeeper last season and was awarded the Golden Glove award. The player is composed in front of goal and has the athleticism and agility needed by a successful goalkeeper. The Spaniard has managed
a total of 126 clean sheets in 267 appearances for Liverpool since 2005, which is an extraordinary record for a player playing in competition like the UEFA Champions league, the Premier league and the FA Cup.
