Premier League Round Up: Manchester United - 12 January 2011
Manchester United defender Jonny Evans was happy to manage a clean sheet against Liverpool and get the Carling Cup quarterfinal match out of his system. Evans recently admitted that his form had dipped this season and the last few months have not been the
best for him. The defender has to be blamed for the shock 4-0 loss to West Ham United in the Carling Cup, where the player seemed lost and out of place.
His embarrassing performance led to Sir Alex Ferguson replacing the centre back in the 70th minute, minutes after Carlton Cole sealed the deal with the 4th goal of the match. However, the player has claimed that the recent training
regime with Manchester United has led him to re-define his style of play and would now want to become more regular for the team.
The manager claimed that he had never lost his faith in the 23-year-old and had always wanted the player to concentrate on the positives. Evans now looks to start for the Southampton game in the FA Cup, which is to be played in the final week of January.
"Don't remind me about West Ham. It has been difficult since then in terms of dealing with the mental side of things. I have always had confidence in my own ability and great support from my family and the manager,” stated the youngster.
The player added that he just needed some time to get things right in his head and needed to train more in order get the basics right. The training sessions led to Sir Alex taking him out for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 match and appreciated the player’s work rate on
the pitch.
Players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonny-Evans-c19085 and other youngsters get a steady amount of playtime at Manchester United. It has been long since United have signed a high profile player and Ferguson now believes on grooming the youth. There are many players in the United line-up,
who have climbed the ranks at Manchester United and Evans is one of them. Ferguson has always been keen on keeping the gap between first team players and reserves very thin, as it creates a healthy competition and signing new players becomes unnecessary if
your youth is performing so well.
