Premier League Round Up: Tottenham Hotspur - 4th January 2011
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has claimed that he did not want to change the starting XI ahead of the Fulham fixture. The side managed a narrow 1-0 victory; thanks to a goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422, who deflected a free kick from Rafael
van der Vaart in the first half. The deflection confused the all experienced Mark Schwarzer and the goal became unstoppable.
However, the side looked extremely fatigued as the same set of players were playing their 3rd fixture in six days. Yet, that paid off in the end, as the side regained their Top 4 reputation in the Premier League and
the manager argued that he did not want to change the side owing to the backlash effect.
"If you go and make seven or eight changes, like Arsenal did (at Wigan), everybody goes, 'Why did he change his team?', if you don't get the result. I stuck with the ones who have played. That's what I consider the best team and
we clawed a result out,” explained Harry Redknapp.
“I thought (Michael) Dawson and (William) Gallas were outstanding when we were under pressure. It's been a good week. Nine points, you can't ask for any more than that over the Christmas period," stated the Spurs coach.
Harry Redknapp should be credited with what he has managed to do since his arrival at White Hart Lane. The side was in the relegation zone in 2008 when Redknapp arrived and the former Portsmouth manager was able to make them finish
in the Top 10. This was followed by a top four finish last season and Spurs have since become an immense threat. The side has trumped the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan, Arsenal and Werder Bremen this season. Tottenham face a tough test in the form of AC Milan in the
Champions league, but their results have been exceptional this season and are considered one of the favourites for lifting the Champions League crown.
