Premier League Round up
It was a week where a match between to fierce city rivals hogged all the headlines but the match itself failed to live up to the hype as attacks from both clubs were fired with blanks and as a result a drab draw came up.
The biggest winners of the weekend were Chelsea as they moved four points clear at the top with a 1-0 win over Fulham in London while Arsenal also notched up three points from a tricky fixture against Wolves.
Michael Essien scored the only goal of the game in the 30th minute of the match but his ecstasy did not last the whole match as he was sent off in the second half for a two footed lunge on Clint Dempsey.
Over at the Molineux Stadium Maruane Chamakh scored the quickest goal in the Premier league in the 30th second of the game as his double helped Arsenal maintain their title chase.
Chamakh headed an Alexander Song cross in the first minute to settle the Gunners nerves early as from there on Arsenal controlled the proceedings.
Chamakh scored his second in injury time to make the points safe, latching on to defence splitting through ball from the midfield before finishing  with sublime ease to leave Wolves just one place from the bottom of the table.
The hammers failed to lift themselves off the foot of the table as they could only muster a 2-2 draw against West Brom at Upton Park.
The visitors took an early lead from the spot when Steven Reid was felled in the box by Luis Boa Morte and the resulting spot kick was slotted home easily by Odemwingie.
Scott Parker restored the parity just before the break when he unleashed a thunderbolt from the edge of the box to leave the spectators mesmerized.
Frederic Piquionne then put the home side a goal to the good from the spot but Pablo Ibanez made sure his side were not leaving empty handed from London as he scored the equalizer late in the game.
In another match Liverpool failed to maintain their momentum after the 2-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Wigan Athletic.
Fernando Torres continued his impressive return to form as he gave his side an early lead when he race on to a lobbed through ball by Steven Gerrard and showed great composure to finish from close range.
But just after the break Wigan were level when Pepe Reina’s feeble clearance fell invitingly to Hugo Rodallega and the striker finished with aplomb.
Over at the Villa Park in Birmingham James Collins spared his manager’s blushes as he scored a winner in the 89th minute to give Villa a 3-2 win over Blackpool.
Ian Holloway made 10 changes to his side – and now faces punishment from the Premier League for fielding a second string side – but his second stringers almost came away with a draw.
Stuart Downing gave Villa the lead only to be equalized by Marlon Harewood but Nathan Delfounseo made it 2-1 in the second half and it looked like the home side would go on to win the match.
But a late flurry of goals threatened to disrupt the harmony but Villa still managed to come away with a win.
DJ campbell made it 2-2 on 82 minutes but Collins made sure the second string Seasisders were leaving Villa park empty handed.
In another match of the night Blackburn Rovers defeated Newcastle United 2-0 with Morton Gamst Pedersen and Jason Roberts getting the goals while in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Bolton substitute Jermaine Beckford and Ivan Klasnic scored for their respective
sides.
