Premier League Second Half Report: Newcastle vs. Liverpool (Part 1)
With both the managers having talked to their players at the half time break, the game was off again for the remainder of the forty five minutes. Liverpool had a giant uphill battle ahead of them in the second half, as it had been sixteen
months since the team last managed to win after going down a goal in the League. The last time the team managed to win after going down to an opposition goal in the League 2009 against Bolton, when the team managed to come from behind to win by three goals
to two.
Apart from that Liverpool had also managed to lose the last eight Premier League games in which they were trailing at the half time break. The last time the team managed to overcome that statistic was in October 2008, when they beat Manchester
City by three goals to two.
However once the second half kicked off, Liverpool were awarded a helping hand, as after a colossal defensive mix up the team managed to score the equalizing goal. Campbell was playing a defensive header, but the ball managed to fall straight
into the feet of Kuyt. Kuyt then went on to cut past the defender and shoot towards the goal, the ball clipped off, of Taylor's shin and snuck into the goal past Krul to give the visitors the goal, to level things on the night.
All of a sudden after the goal, Liverpool seemed to be back in it. The team was looking much sharper then before and was looking to take the half chances that they got and try to capitalize off of them.
On the fifty third minute, Liverpool managed to catch the entire Newcastle defence off-guard, thanks to a quick free kick. The ball was floated into the path of Torres who went into a one-on-one situation with Kurl. However the keeper
did just enough to deny the Spaniard a goal and managed to keep the game level.
Liverpool seemed to have struck gold as they found it too easy to walk past Newcastle, while the home side seemed to be finding it difficult to do anything when on the ball. All of a sudden it seemed like the teams were playing role reversal
after coming out of the half time break.
