Premier League Second Half Report – Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea (Part 1)
Carlo Ancelotti had a lot to talk about during the half time break. Chelsea were easily the more dominant side in the half, but still seemed to find it hard to get on the score sheet. What was going to be interesting to watch was whether the manager would
opt to bring on the teams most lethal striker Didier Drogba or not and if he was going to resort to using Frank Lampard at all.
On the other hand he would have had a word with the rest of the team and told them to get their act together as despite all the dominance in the first half, there was also a number of fumbles and slip ups shown by a number of players, that nearly gifted
Tottenham with goals.
The second half finally got off to a start after the fifteen minute delay in between the halves and Ancelotti decided he had, had enough and replaced John Obi Mikel with Didier Drogba.
The change meant that Chelsea were going to be resorting to a very unnatural 4-4-2 formation, but as long as they ended up getting the result it would have not mattered.
Early on in the half, Chelsea were back at hacking Bale away. This time around it was Ivanovic who went on to bring down Bale, but to everyone's surprise the referee waved play on.
A minute after that hack by the Chelsea side back, on the forty eighth minute Defoe hit a crisp shot from the edge of the box that managed to beat Cech but ended up going just a foot wide of the post.
So to Chelsea's delight they were still in the game and Tottenham were looking very lethal all of a sudden.
Frank Lampard managed to get to his feet and started to patrol around, as though to remind Ancelotti that he was also an option. However it was rather interesting to notice the fact that Ancelotti did not opt to start with Lampard and then take him off,
if he proved to not be fit enough for the game.
Either way, the signs were pointing to the fact that Lampard could very well be on his way to the pitch for Chelsea, sooner or later in the game.
