Premier League Second Half Report – Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea (Part 4)
Almost immediately after that attempt by Chelsea, Malouda made way for none other than Frank Lampard, who took to the pitch after what seemed to be ages. However on the other end of things Tottenham also made a change of their own as Robbie Keane came on
to replace Pavlyuchenko.
On the seventy ninth minute, Lennon almost gave Tottenham another late goal. The ball bounced around in the Chelsea area and fell to the winger, who managed to drag his shot just wide of the mark from close range.
A minute later Essien once again tried to test Gomes from range but this time around the player’s effort was rather poor and well wide of the mark.
On the eighty first minute, Drogba started to show his frustration as he hacked down Palacios but then went on to protest furiously as a free-kick was given in Tottenham's favour.
Palacios stayed down after the tackle but after some medical care he managed to get back up to his feet and seemed to be fit to continue.
On the eighty fourth minute Tottenham finally managed to win a corner kick. However the delivery from the set piece was weak and Chelsea men were allowed to break at Tottenham once again.
On the eighty fifth minute there was some major confusion in the Tottenham area as Gomes whacked a clearance against his own man – the ball could have gone anywhere, but managed to go out of bounds for a Chelsea throw in.
Soon after an interesting event took place as Ramires managed to challenge Crouch for an aerial ball won it. The surprising thing about this was that Ramires is quite possibly a third of Crouch's height.
On the eighty eighth minute, Palacios was once again taken down. This time around it was Cole who hacked down the player and he seemed to be seriously hurt this time around. The player was out for good as he was soon afterwards substituted and Sandro was
brought on to replace him.
Soon after that the ninety minutes were up and the referee added four minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game.
In the first minute of extra time, Chelsea had a penalty kick awarded to them. It was Gomes who barged into Ramires and the referee had no option but to point to the spot.
Drogba stepped up to take the resulting kick, but to everyone's surprise Gomes saved his effort. The drama in the game was at an all time high as that goal would have killed the game and secured Chelsea the three points. That miss can only leave us to wonder,
what would have been the outcome had Lamaprd taken that spot kick.
However Drogba seemed to show his frustration after the miss as he hacked down Hutton and received a Yellow card for his efforts. Bale took the resulting spot kick, but despite putting plenty of power on it, he missed the target by a mile.
That free-kick was the last play of the game as the referee signalled the end of the match almost immediately afterwards and Chelsea were now five games without a win.
