Premier League Special Report: Why it is Manchester United's title to lose?
The week that has just gone in the English Premier League may just be remembered at the end of the season as a week that defined the title tilt. Manchester United laboured to a victory over Sunderland, Arsenal thrashed Birmingham and for the first time in
the season looked like the real deal while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 suffered irreparable damage to their title aspirations as a stunning comeback by Aston Villa pegged them back at the Stamford Bridge. Manchester City also deserve a mention who kept things tight at the top
of the table with another win and it’s amazing how their fates have transformed in just a matter of a few weeks.
Tottenham Hotspur also remained in the hunt with a hard fought win over Fulham at the White Hart Lane but the season is beginning to look more and more like Manchester United’s season.
At the start of the season, no one could have thought that after a swashbuckling start to the season and with more than 20 goals in their first three games, Chelsea will even be out of the Champions League places at the half way stage of the competition
but such tight are the affairs this time that Chelsea are lying fifth in the table and perhaps, have too much to do if they are to win the title.
Manchester United have hardly hit the top gear this season yet they are unbeaten in the season. Although, their away form has been patchy but they are not losing games and unlike earlier in the season they are not giving away leads to end up drawing games
anymore.
United have remained top going into the New Year despite the awful form of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 who has only scored two goals in the season so far for the Red Devils, one of those two came from the spot against West Ham in early October. Who would have thought that
the striker, who scored 34 goals last season, would even struggle to hit double figures this season but despite his dip in form, United have managed to stay afloat and now find themselves in pole position for the title.
It is indeed worrying times for their title challengers but there is still hope as Manchester City are walking shoulder to shoulder with United in the title race and are currently level on points with the Red Devils but have played two games more.
City’s recent form has eased pressure on Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323, who was odds on favourite to be the first manager to be sacked around Christmas but such has been the transformation of his team that they are looking like title contenders.
Arsenal have also kept pace with the front runners and on the evidence of their last performance against Birmingham, it will only take a terribly stupid person to rule them out of the title race but for Chelsea, conditions look condemning.
The London Blues are 7 points behind the league leaders and their worries showed no signs of improvement against an Aston Villa side that is within touching distance of relegation zone and was only obliterated last week at the hands of Manchester City.
As things stand, it looks like Manchester United’s season to lose but with the chasing pack so close nothing can be said for sure but United have been infamous for hitting their top form after Christmas. When they are sitting at the top of the perch only
walking through their matches one can only wonder what will happen once they start running.
