Premier League: Sunderland v Arsenal first half report
Sunderland 0 Arsenal 1
A freakish goal from Cesc Fabregas has given Arsenal a half time lead at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand struck an attempted clearance straight at the Arsenal skipper in the 13th minute, and 13 proved to be lucky for the visitors as the ball rebounded off Fabregas and looped into the net from 40 yards out.
In truth, it is a lead that Arsenal scarcely deserve, as hosts Sunderland will be disappointed that they’ve been unable to turn possession into chances.
Nedum Onuoha should have done better with a header, while Cristian Riveros missed a glorious opportunity having been perfectly picked out by Ahmed El Mohamady’s cross.
Fabregas was forced to limp off midway through the half with an injury he picked up in scoring the goal.
