Premier League Team of the Game Week - 14
Another round of matches came to an end last night with a thrilling 2-2 draw between Sunderland and Everton. However, the weekend’s football yet again produced some strange results and great goals.
Chelsea tried valiantly against Birmingham to score a goal but dropped all three points at St. Andrews while Tottenham made a remarkable second half recovery against Arsenal to register their first away win against the Gunners in 17 years.
Bolton continued their rich vein of form as they thrashed Newcastle 5-1 at the Reebok Stadium. There were some great individual performances and Bettor.com has come up, which we believe, is the best possible Premier League team of this game week.
Here is our Premier League TOTGW-14 (Team of the Game Week – 14):
Formation: 4-4-2
Goal Keeper – Ben Foster (Birmingham City)
He has had his ups and downs, but at the weekend it was a major up for the Englishman. He was instrumental in Birmingham’s win over Chelsea. He was at his best to keep Drogba and Co at bay as Chelsea bombarded Birmingham for almost the entire 90 minutes.
Right Back – Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City)
The Argentine seems to have won Mancini over. His versatility has helped him play regularly for Manchester City and at the weekend he was deployed in his favoured right back spot. He scored a cracking goal from distance and then saw a similar effort saved
by the goalkeeper only for Carlos Tevez to score from the rebound.
Centre Back – Younes Kaboul (Tottenham Hotspur)
He makes this team purely on the basis of his remarkable late winner against Arsenal to give his side all three points. However, he did not neglect his defensive duties especially in the second half. He along with Gallas did not allow Arsenal to break through
in a brilliant second half performance from Kaboul.
Centre Back – Scott Dann (Birmingham City)
The ever improving youngster was rock solid at the back alongside Roger Johnson. Dann has been in great form again this season but has added more resilience and aggressiveness in his approach. He did brilliantly to keep Nickolas Anelka and Didier Drogba
at bay at St. Andrews.
Left Back – Patrice Evra (Manchester United)
Patrice Evra is yet to hit the heights of last season but against Wigan, his goal settled the nerves and set up a crucial victory for the not so convincing Manchester United of this season. He scored a brilliant header and hardly put a foot wrong defensively.
Right Midfield – Chung Young Lee (Bolton)
The winger has been a key part of Owen Coyle’s high flying Bolton team and his first time left footed curler was a finish of a confident player. The winger performed consistently and gave Newcastle all sorts of problems down his right flank.
Centre Midfield – Raul Meireles (Liverpool)
Arguably his best game in a red shirt, Meireles looked assured and ran the show against a horrible West Ham team. In the absence of Gerrard, he was handed the task to pull the strings from the midfield, and he certainly did not disappoint. It was a man of
the match display from the Portuguese.
Centre Midfield – Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal)
He might still be thinking how he came out on the losing side. Cesc was back to his best in the first half against Tottenham and stole the show with his range of passing and in particular his delightful long ball for Nasri to open the scoring.
Left Midfield – Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur)
The star of the season so far, Bale was again on the score sheet as he and Van der Vaart helped Spurs to a stunning fight back against Arsenal. He took his goal superbly and won a number of free kicks in dangerous areas, including the one which led to the
winner.
Striker – Carlos Tevez (Manchester City)
The Manchester City skipper was back to his best after failing to score in his last three games. He scored 2 and set up another in a convincing 4-1 win at Fulham. Tevez was a constant threat throughout the 90 minutes and was the stand out performer for City
yet again.
Striker – Johan Elmander (Bolton)
The Swede is having an absolutely fantastic season. After a couple of years of failure, Owen Coyle has got the best out of his man. He continued from where he had left last week and scored 2 of Bolton’s 5 goals while also set up another in yet another classy
performance.
Player of the Game Week 14 – Carlos Tevez
