Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City half time report
Tottenham 0 Man City 0
An inspired performance from Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has kept Tottenham Hotspur at bay and ensured that the first 45 minutes of the new Premier League season has ended goalless.
Hart – preferred to Shay Given by City boss Roberto Mancini – has thwarted Jermain Defoe on three separate occasions, the first one brilliantly from close range, and also kept out long distance efforts from both Tom Huddlestone and Benoît Assou-Ekotto.
Gareth Bale’s angled drive did beat Hart, but the Welshman saw his effort come back off the post, before Aaron Lennon’s rebound was blocked.
City have been hanging on, with new signings David Silva and Yaya Touré struggling to make an impact going forward, although captain Carlos Tevez should have done better when he hesitated in front of goal.
