Premier League - Transfer Rumours: Emmanuel Adebayor Wants to Leave Manchester City
Sometimes, football clubs show over-enthusiasm during the transfer market, showing their interests in a lot of players. This strategy helps them to unsettle some of those players, in their current clubs. On the other hand, a few players from the club are also unsettled, because they feel that the interests shown in certain players would weaken their chances of getting a first team start.
Manchester City showed a lot of enthusiasm in the previous summer’s transfer market, signing a lot of players, especially from other EPL clubs. This summer, they are once again leading the other English clubs in the transfer market, as they have already signed players like David Silva, Yaya Toure and Jerome Boateng. However, this has not prevented them from hunting other players during this summer, as they have a few more transfer targets to achieve.
For some odd reason, the focus of Manchester City is on strikers and centre forwards. Last year, they bought players like Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez, Craig Bellamy and Robinho in their squad. Now, Manchester City has shown a desire to sign Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan. This totally changes the situation at the club, as now the options have grown wider than before.
There is no doubt that Carlos Tevez would make it to the first team, as he was City’s top goal-scorer from last season. On the other hand, other strikers had an average season, as they failed to show their worth to the fans. Therefore, these players have started to worry about their options, as the rumours about signing of Balotelli are circling the media.
Hence, Emmanuel Adebayor has shown his desire to leave the club and go to Italy during this summer. Adebayor is worried about his position in the team, as he would have to fight hard for his chances amidst a group of talented players. Previously, Adebayor was linked with Italian clubs; AC Milan was in front of the race for his signing. This time, Adebayor has shown a desire to join Juventus, another Italian giant, who are working hard to reclaim their top position.
Adebayor’s position is in danger because he had a poor last season with United. He scored only 14 goals during the whole season, and missed a lot of chances as well. Also, his form has been under question for almost two seasons, as he failed to impress during his last season with his previous club, Arsenal.
Now, Manchester City has to submit a 25 member squad before the start of new season. With a squad much bigger than the requirements, there are chances that some big names might be dropped from the team sheets, especially if Balotelli also joins the club. Adebayor, based on his performance so far, might make it to the squad, but it would be difficult for him to find his position in the starting line-up.
Although Manchester City has given no indication as to whether Adebayor would be staying for the next season, they might be happy to put the player on the transfer list. They already have a talented squad, and out-of-form players would only cause trouble to their team. Although Adebayor has shown his desire to fight for his place in the team, it might not be enough for the striker. Also, Manchester City should think about their future as well, as with Adebayor leaving, they would generate some funds to sign a younger player. Such a player would not mind sitting on the bench for his first season.
There is not enough time left in the transfer deadline, therefore, the clubs would be pacing up their player-chase. The current statuses of clubs are still far from being final, and many changes can be expected in the next few weeks.
