Premier League Transfer news - Graham Dorrans extends contract at West Brom
The transfer window in European football continues to throw new names and rumours of major switches across the board, but probably the clubs out of top 10 in England do not get noticed much. The Cesc Fabregas transfer saga has been all around and that is probably one transfer story making headlines every day. Stories like West Ham united making 3 different but unsuccessful bids to sign West Bromwich Albion Midfielder Graham Dorrans probably end up on the bottom of the sports pages.
Finally Graham has ended the speculation by putting pen to paper on a contract extension on a 4 year deal at the baggies.
West Ham were determined to get their man and the desperation can be understood by the fact that after baggies rejected the first 2 bids, the Hammer came back with a final 5 million pounds offer. Graham though finally decided that it is best for him to stay put.
Dorrans signed his last contract in January and since then he has been a regular feature on the score sheet netting in 18 goals and helping the team to promotion last season.
Roberto Di Matteo, West Brom Manager, said that the club is delighted by the new contract extension. He added that Graham has shown immense improvement and progress from last season, and they expect his game to get even better in the coming season.
Dorrans agreed to a contract in January that would have seen him stay for 4 and a half years and also had a clause to extend his stay for another year. The new deal would see him stay at Baggies till 2015 and also has an option of a 12 month extension.
Dorrans said that he is delighted to have signed a new deal, the Scotland midfielder said that he thinks the club is heading in the right direction and he feels at home at West Bromwich Albion. He said that there was a lot of speculation with Hammers knocking on the door, but he is happy to have finally put the matter to rest.
The Scotsman said that it is a great feeling to know that the people around you love having you there; he said that he must have been doing something right for Baggies to fight so hard for him.
Dorrans said that he wanted to come back to the club and get ready for the new season; he said he knew he was contracted to Albion and now he is more committed than ever to take the club forward.
He said that the club has big ambitions and he cannot wait for the season to start, the midfielder said that life in Premier League will be exciting and more challenging and the team is ready for it.
Dorrans was an integral part of the campaign last season that saw West Brom finish 2nd in the championship and confirmed their place in the Premier League. Darron also received the Professional Footballer’s Association fan’s player of the season and was also named club’s player of the season.
His excellent form for his club also enabled him to make it to the national team; he has so far played 3 matches for Scotland.
Di Matteo said that he is very happy that Graham has decided to sign a new deal, and they know that this would give a big boost to the team ahead of their return to top flight.
Di Matteo, the team manager, said that though the club is pleased with the new deal, but still no one at the club had any doubts that Dorrans would be leaving.
