Premier League Update: Charismatic skipper Steven Gerrard back in the Liverpool squad
The dynamic skipper had missed out last six premier league games after the hamstring injury on an international duty. Now Steven Gerrard is back in line, for the Reds and all set for the next clash with FC Fulham at Anfield, after a month long absence. FC
Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson, has to check up with medical team before the decision to take Number 8 back in the team. The 30-year-old midfielder ripped his hamstring on an international friendly contest between England and France on 17th November,
2010. He missed four Premier League games for the Reds out of which two were won and two were lost.
Although Roy Hodgson played down the chances of Gerrard in the mid week, the latter has stepped up for the training sessions in the last few days. Gerrard’s come back could not have been timed better with an eventful festive period coming forward. In the
absence of Gerrard and the veteran Jamie Carragher, the goalkeeper Jose Reina captained the side and is looking positive after the return of his inspirational team mate. The Spaniard, Jose Reina who is about to make 200th premier league appearance
this Saturday called the Gerrard’s return a ‘massive lift’. Reina also expressed “Liverpool is a different side without Gerrard as he is the key player and when he’s in the team, things are really different. The confidence and commitment he gives to the club,
you have to drag yourself to his level of passion.”
Liverpool Manager, Roy Hodgson said, "Steven is training hard and is desperate to get back playing, but with my record of saying things and then getting them wrong, I think I am best being cagey and saying let's wait and see. There will be no more bold statements
from me on any player, at least for the foreseeable future." The 63-year-old manager said on Tuesday that his captain return was ‘touch and go’ and regardless of the fact that the midfielder recovered sufficiently from the hamstring injury. He had pledges
to play Fernando Torres in the midweek Europa League game against Utrecht and made a last minute decision not to risk him, he didn’t predict about Gerrard though.
