Premier League Update: Liverpool vice-captain Jamie Carragher looking at the bright side of not playing in Europe
Lifelong Liverpool player and current vice-captain of the Reds, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamie-Carragher-c17728 has gone on to highlight the positives of not playing in Europe. At the moment, Liverpool are set to see their first ever season, in the last twelve years, without participating
in European competitions, however, Carragher feels not all hope is lost just yet.
Following two back to back defeats, at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 failed to make it into the fifth spot in the league and are hence not going to be competing in the Europa League.
When reflecting upon missing out on the Europa League, Carragher is reported to have said: "No disrespect to the Europa League but the way that competition has gone it's not a massive disappointment,"
The player then went on to reveal how this could prove to be a blessing in disguise for the Reds and went on to add: "The main thing for us next season is getting back into the Champions League.”
"Not being in Europe will give us a better chance of doing that. We want to get back in the top four and do well in the cups.”
"Playing Thursdays and Sundays isn't ideal so there's a flip side to not being involved."
From the looks of things, Carragher might just have some sort of an argument developing right there. The added pressure of playing in Europe, can often lead to being a team’s undoing and considering how fragile Liverpool are at the moment, the last thing
they would want, is to fall apart due to the added pressure of playing countless games all season long.
On the other hand, with the Reds not participating in Europe this coming term, they can address a number of key areas, which seem to be lacking. Firstly, the team would be able to determine which player can play all season long and just what changes need
to be brought about to the club. The team’s roster would also manage to finally be able to take it easy and without having to constantly fly back and forth all over Europe, they would get ample rest. This rest, would and could also help the team finally compete
for top honours in the Premier League and should the team use their off days to their advantage, they might just be able to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time, ever.
