Premier League Wednesday Night Preview - Part 1
It would be another exciting midweek in English football as 7 more matches will be played on Wednesday night after the two encounters on Tuesday night saw Harry Redknapp’s Spurs slipping up against Sunderland and Stoke City beating Birmingham City in a thrilling
encounter.
The focus tonight will be on the big Manchester derby at the City of Manchester Stadium but there will be plenty more going on elsewhere in the league. Here is a preview of the clashes tonight:
Newcastle United vs. Blackburn Rovers:
(St. James Park, Newcastle (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) - Wednesday, November 10th, 2010)
Newcastle are playing the football of their lives and whoever predicted them for the drop, it looks like he will have to eat his words. After the clinical dispatching of Sunderland a week ago, Toons claimed the priced scalp of Arsenal and that too at the
Emirates Stadium when they beat Arsenal 1-0 on the night courtesy of another blunder by Lukasz Fabianski that gifted the in-form Ando Carroll an easy header.
Tonight, Chris Hughton’s side will welcome Sam Allardyce’s Blackburn Rovers at St. James Park and after their recent results in the league, Geordie faithful will not be expecting anything less than a win.
Andy Carroll is making strong statements with his performance during an international call up for the friendly against France and another good performance will surely earn him a place in Capello’s side.
Carroll is set to lead the attack tonight along with Peter Lovenkrands and Kevin Nolan while Mame Briam Diouf along with Nicola Klanic will carry the burden of Rovers' attack on their shoulders.
It will be a thrilling encounter between the two sides as Sam Allardyce’ physical approach will come up against the possession football of Toons.
Rovers themselves are on a high after they lifted out of the drop zone with a 2-1 victory at the weekend over Wigan and will hope to disrupt the harmony at St. James Park.
West Ham United vs. West Bromwich Albion:
(Boleyn Ground, London - Wednesday, November 10th, 2010)
West Ham are rock bottom of the Premier League and have won only one match so far this season. Last weekend, they earned a respectable draw against Birmingham and manager Avram Grant will be hoping that his side can turn the tide in its favour when Baggies
come to visit Upton Park in East London.
West Ham’s midfield anchor, Mark Noble is set to miss the match after undergoing a surgery on his appendix but Avram Grant will make sure that his creativity in the match is not missed as he looks to guide his side towards survival in the league.
After a promising start in the league, West Brom will be looking to bounce back in the match as they suffered two consecutive defeats in recent weeks but will be without the services of their suspended midfielder, Youssouf Mulumbu.
Chelsea vs. Fulham:
(Stamford Bridge, London - Wednesday, November 10th, 2010)
In another clash in London, league leaders Chelsea will welcome Fulham to Stamford Bridge and Carlo Ancelotti will be out to prove that the disappointing loss to Liverpool at the weekend was only a minor blip.
It was only revealed yesterday that Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is suffering from malaria but Ancelotti has said that the Ivorian will be playing in the match.
Chelsea saw their lead at the top cut to just two points by Manchester United with their victory against Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday. Another slip up may cost the London Blues their top spot in the league.
Fulham have never won an encounter against Chelsea since 1964 and the task at hand does not get any easier as they will be without Carlos Salciedo and Chris Baird.
