Premier League Wednesday Night Preview - Part 2
Aston Villa vs. Blackpool:
(Villa Park, Birmingham - Wednesday, November 10th, 2010)
Since taking over at the Villa Park, Gerrard Houllier hasn't set the Premier League alight. In fact, his side is on the back of two consecutive draws as they prepare to take on Ian Holloway’s Blackpool tonight in Birmingham.
Aston Villa have been going through a torrid time due to injuries as Steve Sidwell now joins Emile Heskey, Stiliyan Petroba and Nigel Reo Coker on the treatment table. Without so many stalwarts, Villa have obviously struggled to get the desired results.
But on a positive note, the electric-paced Gabriel Agbonlahor may return to the first team tonight for this clash as Houllier looks to turn things around for his club.
Blackpool, on the other hand, have surprised all and sundry with their impressive show in the league so far. A visit to Villa Park will have no demons for them as they have no fear going into the match.
The Seasiders are visiting Midlands on the back of three consecutive away wins in the league. Despite their worst defensive record in the league, having conceded 23 goals this season, they are still in the top half of the table.
Craig Cathcart and Brett Ormerod are doubtful for tonight’s match but Holloway remains confident of coming away with another surprise.
Everton vs. Bolton:
(Goodison Park, Liverpool - Wednesday, November 10th, 2010)
Everton are a club that is in the ascendency in the Premier League. They will be looking to extend their 6 match unbeaten run tonight when they host Trotters at Goodisson Park.
But, Bolton themselves are riding a high as only on Saturday, they defeated Tottenham Hotspurs 4-2 in a thrilling encounter at White Hart Lane. This match is expected to be a feisty encounter as both sides will be going all out for the win.
Europe is still a distinct possibility for Everton and a win tonight will certainly strengthen their claim for continental competition.
Kevin Davies, who scored twice and assisted once, will again lead the attack for Bolton while Martin Petrov will also be available for the game.
For Everton, Marouane Felliani and Jack Rodwell have recovered from their injuries and will be pushing for a place in the side.
Manchester City vs. Manchester United:
(City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester - Wednesday, November 10th, 2010)
Manchester City vs. Manchester United is the marquee fixture of the week. This encounter is set to be a high profile affair as the two Manchester sides look to battle it out for supremacy.
City ended their run of two back to back defeats at the weekend with a convincing 2-0 win over West Brom. After the humiliation of three injury time defeats in the league and Carling Cup last season, they will be looking to turn the tables around on their
illustrious opponents.
Mancini has a full squad to choose from apart from Mario Balotelli who received a red card after scoring two goals at the weekend and is suspended for the game. Manchester United, on the other hand, have a depleted squad with no less than 8 members of the
first team out due to injury or illness.
Roony, Nani, Giggs, Carrick, Anderson and Gibson are all absentees but Dimitar Berbatov may return for this match.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Arsenal:
(Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton, West Midlands - Wednesday, November 10th, 2010)
Arsenal suffered a setback at the weekend when they lost 1-0 to Newcastle but they will be looking to turn things around and get their title chase back on track when they visit Molineux tonight.
Matt Jarvis is all set to play his 100th match in the Premier League while Robin Van Persie is set to lead the Arsenal attack in the match.
