Premier League Weekend's Winners and Losers – Part 2
Winners – Continued
Aston Villa – what a comeback!
Villans are enjoying a terrible season – not really. But their cracking last gasp draw against the champions will live in the memory of every Villa fan for a long time to come.
Sunderland – shots on goal don’t matter
After failing to find the back of the net against Blackpool amid 29 shots on goal, Sunderland scored from their very first shot on goal against Blackburn at the weekend.
They went on to win the game by 3 goals to nil and they had only 4 shots on goal. That is just amazing. Steve Bruce himself said, “that’s football”.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Brunt – West Brom’s Guti Hernandez
It is still not clear whether he copies the Real Madrid legend but there certainly are a few commonalities between them. His eye for the pass and his playing style very much reminds everyone of Guti.
However, he isn’t anywhere near http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guti-c15452 used to be but he certainly will be playing for one of the better Premier League clubs very soon.
Avram Grant – is in unknown territory
He is finally out of the relegation zone and this has happened for the first time since he was appointed Portsmouth manager back in November 2008.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Dawson-c25288 – England’s most underrated defender
Dawson has missed most of the season so far but when he is in that dodgy Spurs defence, Tottenham have conceded only 4 goals in 7 games (against Manchester City, Stoke, Wigan, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Newcastle, Villa and Fulham).
However, in his absence they have leaked in a staggering 19 in only 13 games. His performance this weekend proved a point or two about who should be England’s 1st choice centre back.
Steven Gerrard – the legend was back, after 20 minutes' rest
Steven Gerrard was back to his very best against Bolton and was the architect of Liverpool's win. His teammates are certainly not on the same wavelength – he is simply too good for them.
He started the match on the bench and was brought on after only 20 minutes as Meireles received a knock. But if he could come on after 20 minutes, he could surely have started the match as well.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 – wasn’t that the finish of a confident striker?
Torres tucked away a sensational pass from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 on the volley with such ease that one could be excused for forgetting the type of season the Spaniard has had.
He looked very much up for it and Roy Hodgson needs more of the same from his star man, more than anyone else.
This was his 45th strike in 50 matches at Anfield. That is quite a record.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694 – OFFSIDE
The diminutive midfielder has been lauded for scoring a goal from half a yard out and from an offside position. He had hardly done anything after coming on as a substitute, apart from a few misplaced passes.
However, a goal will do wonders for him as everyone seems to be backing him now.
Rafael van der Vaart – £8m? What a bargain
All the hype surrounding Gareth Bale is justified only if Rafael van der Vaart is given equal credit for Spurs emphatic season so far. The Dutchman has scored 8 goals and has 5 assists from his first 14 Premier League matches.
Can http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 match that from his first 14 games? You having a laugh.
Wayne Rooney – Out of this world?
Sir Alex Ferguson lauded http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736’s performance against the Baggies as ‘out of this world’. Well, in reality it was far from it.
Rooney bagged his first Premier League goal from open play since March last year. Considering that, yes, it may have been out of this world for Wayne, but unfortunately for United, he was hobbling towards the end of the match which means we might have to
wait to see another ‘out of this world’ performance from Wayne Rooney.
