Premier League: Wigan Athletic earn shock win at Tottenham Hotspur
Wigan Athletic pulled off arguably the shock result of the Premier League campaign so far with a 1-0 win at Champions League qualifiers Tottenham Hotspur.
The Latics had lost both of their first two matches this season, conceding 10 goals in the process, and lost 9-1 to Spurs at White Hart lane last season, but Roberto Martinez’s side took the points from North London thanks to a Hugo Rodallega strike 10 minutes from time.
Elsewhere, Chelsea eased to a 2-0 victory over Stoke City at Stamford Bridge, prolonging their 100% start to the season.
Frank Lampard missed an early penalty, but the Blues bounced back courtesy of Florent Malouda and a Didier Drogba spot kick.
Blackpool and Fulham drew 2-2 in the first ever Premier League match at Bloomfield Road.
Bobby Zamora had put the Londoners ahead, but a John Pantsil own goal and a strike from debutant Luke Varney looked to have won it for the Tangerines, until Dickson Etuhu scored an equaliser just three minutes from time.
Goals from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Andy Carroll ensured that Wolves and Newcastle United drew 1-1 at Molineux, while earlier in the day, Arsenal beat Blackburn 2-1 at Ewood Park thanks to goals from Theo Walcott and Andrey Arshavin. Mame Biram Diouf struck for the hosts.
Manchester United’s home match with West Ham United kicks off at 17:30 GMT.
