Newcastle United played host to Sunderland, as they looked to try and move closer to the top four. Newcastle had been performing exceptionally well all season long, but seemed to suffer a dip in their form in recent weeks.
As a result, the team was looking to go all out against Sunderland, in order to give their European qualification a massive boost.
On the other hand, Sunderland had been performing brilliantly in recent weeks and had finally picked their form up.
Based on the form that both teams had been showing, the game was building up to be one of the best of the season.
Following a very high paced opening few minutes, Sunderland went on to take the lead in the game via a spot kick in the 24th minute.
Williamson went on grab Turner's shirt and tug him to the ground. The referee felt that there was too much contact in the challenge and went on to award a penalty to the visitors.
Bendtner stepped up to take the spot kick and sent his effort low into the corner. Krul dived in the right direction, but the effort by the striker was hit with precision and sailed into the back of the net with ease.
The game then headed into stoppage time, where it seemed like Sunderland would grab all three points from the game.
However, second half substitute, Shola Ameobi had plans of his own and the striker was determined to get something from the game for his side.
