Premier League gossip: Madrid in for Rooney, Owen to Villa
According to a report published by media, Real Madrid are apparently looking to end Wayne Rooney's disaster stricken life in Manchester, by offering to lure the player to Spain for a whopping sixty five million pounds. Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho are willing to offer the player this as long as he wishes to start all over abroad.
Sources have it, 'Mourinho has already told Perez that a new forward is crucial next summer and Perez sees as Rooney as the perfect marquee signing to kick start the 2011-12 season. The Real president has spoken to Rooney's former Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and was told he would love to link back up with his old strike partner.'
'Striker Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema could be offered as part of the deal, as could Brazil superstar Kaka, who has failed to make the impression it was hoped he would in Spain.'
It would be interesting to see how the deal shapes up, United are in desperate need to sign a striker and if they can get two, for the price of one, then maybe it is a move that the team just might end up considering.
Another Manchester United striker, who could be on his way out of the team, is Michael Own.
According to The News of the World, Gerard Houllier, is poised to make his former forward, his latest and first signing at Aston Villa. The manager is rumoured to move in for the player, either in January, or to move in and offer the player a loan deal in the near future.
In the words of The News of the World, 'Owen is in line to become Gerard Houllier's first signing for Aston Villa. The new Villa boss is set to make a swoop for the former England striker during the January transfer window either on loan or for a nominal fee.'
Houllier had his interest in the player reignited, once he watched Owen play in Jamie Carragher’s testimonial match.
Staying with Manchester United, the team are apparently looking to sign a new keeper, to try and replace Van der Sar in the future. The player that the Manchester United team has turned towards is Maarten Stekelenburg. Since both the players are Dutch, it is obvious that it would be easier for United to lure the keeper to Old Trafford, despite various other teams showing interest in the keeper.
According to the Sunday Telegraph: 'Manchester United sold Ben Foster to Birmingham this summer and want to get a new goalkeeper in for next season and, depending on Van der Sar's fitness, may even be provoked to move for Stekelenburg in January.'
Arsenal were the other team who had shown great interest in signing Stekelenburg, however if United continue to show the same level of interest in the player leading up to the January transfer window, then it could come down to what team the player would prefer to join. That being said, considering the two teams that are looking to sign the player are Arsenal and United, there is hardly any chance of their being a bidding way between the clubs over the player.
