Premier League news: Arsenal vs Wolverhampton Wanderers – full time report
Arsenal took on Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates, in a game that was a must win for the Gunners.
This was because of the fact that Manchester United had beaten Manchester City at Old Trafford and, in order for Arsenal to maintain the point difference at four they were going to have to get all three points on the night.
However, it was not going to be an easy task to beat Wolves, as they were on a high after having beaten United last weekend and Arsenal were looking to conserve themselves, prior to facing Barcelona in the mid-week fixtures.
The match kicked off with the Gunners controlling the run of play rather brilliantly. The team was making it close to impossible for the Wolves to get a single touch on the ball and at the heart of it all Cesc Fabregas was pulling the strings for the home-side.
In the 17th minute, Arsenal's domination paid off, as they managed to find the opening goal of the night.
Fabregas got down the right flank and pulled a low cross towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380. The striker then bent his body in a rather odd position and went on to volley the ball on the scissors into the back of the net.
The opening goal helped calm Arsenal's nerves as they then went on to slowly build on the momentum from the opening goal. However, despite that fact they did not find another goal during the first forty-five minutes.
In the second-half, play resumed just as it had ended in the first. Arsenal were on top of things and were pulling the strings and controlling the proceedings in the game.
Once again after creating a heap of chances, it was Van Persie, who found the back of the net for the Gunners once again. In the 57th minute, Fabregas split the Wolves defence in half, as he sent an inch perfect through ball to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873. The
winger then raced on to the ball and played it across the face of the goal for the Dutchman to slot past the Wolves keeper.
After the second goal, it was just a matter of Arsenal controlling the ball and keeping possession for much longer then http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 could.
Nonetheless, Wolves tried their best to try and get something out of the game in the dying few minutes of the match.
However, a resilient Arsenal back-line kept them at bay and the match ended with the score-line reading two goals to nil in favour of Arsenal.
