Premier League news: Carlo Cudicini delighted to be back, Fulham to sign new manager
The Italian keeper, Carlo Cudicini confessed that he was sentimental when he returned to his club, Tottenham Hotspurs, after going through a life and career threatening motorcycle crash with a car. The goalkeeper has admitted it was emotional when he returned to action following his career-threatening motorcycle collision last year.
The former Chelsea keeper was severely injured, as he fractured his wrists and injured his pelvis. Fortunately, the keeper went through some extensive rehabilitation routine, and finally returned to training.
The Italian was able to play a few minutes when his side won against Bournemouth. Cudicini kept on working hard, and was able to finally make a full recovery. Carlo played full ninety minutes, in the Spurs stalemate against San Jose, and was happy to be finally back in between the sticks.
Carlo was emotional about finally being able to play football after the disastrous incident, and stated that it was an awesome feeling to finally be back and being able to play the whole match.
Tottenham Hotspurs finished their best ever, fourth in the league, and will be tasting the Champions League this season. Cudicini would therefore want to recover fully and become an integral part of the bout.
The keeper added that the rehabilitation program was divided into two distinct parts; the first part was held in the summer and the keeper praised Parksy for his help along with the physio’s team. Cudini added that the second part is more difficult, which is hard training and playing 90 minutes for the club. The 36 year old shot stopper kept his fingers crossed about the coming season, and claimed that everything was going well at the moment.
In other news, Europa League runner ups Fulham have promised to sign a new manager very soon, after Ajax manager Martin Jol rejected to coach the Premier League club. Martin Jol was not interested in replacing Roy Hodgson at the helm, and confirmed that he wanted to stay with Ajax, on Thursday.
It was reported that Jol wanted to personally come and manage Fulham, but owing to his commitment with Ajax, he refused to join the Premier League side. Fulham are yet to have a manager since Hodgson’s departure to Liverpool, and considered Jol to be the perfect man for the job.
However, after the failure to sign the former Spurs boss, Alistair Mackintosh, who is the chief executive for Fulham, would want to do something about the issue, and should look for other replacements. The club issued an official statement, claiming that Fulham started discussions with Jol only because there was an escape clause in Jol’s contract.
The club however learned that the clause was not valid, and Ajax were persistent on keeping the manager at Ajax. Owing to this, the negotiations between the two clubs have officially come to a close.
The statement added that after Roy’s departure, a list was made regarding the issue of potential managers, and therefore the club remains steadfast in getting the right person, in the shortest of times. Till then, Ray Lewington is to remain the caretaker manager of the club and is to take care of the matters till a suitable replacement is sought.
Cardiff City manager Dave Jones and former Ivory Coast manager Sven-Goran Eriksson are one of the few targets, and Fulham will want to persuade one of them as soon as possible. Fulham are yet to make a signing, owing to the unavailability of a manager, and will want to bolster their squad.
Under Roy Hodgson, Fulham reached their first ever Europa League final, and were phenomenal in that competition. They defeated Italian heavyweights Juventus at Craven Cottage, and lost to a heart breaking goal in the dying minutes by Diego Forlan. Fulham made a name for itself last season, and will want to perhaps win the Europa League this time around as well.
