Premier League news: Chelsea may still sign Neymar

Chelsea’s pursuit to sign Brazilian starlet Neymar may well have taken an interesting turn, even though Santos have officially refused a 20 million Euro bid for the 18 year old. Santos officially accepted that they received a bid from Chelsea, but were unwilling to sell the teenage sensation.
The club claimed that the player would only be released if the club paid out the buyout clause, which reportedly is around 35 million Euros. The 18 year old is labelled as the “Next Robinho” and the Brazilian club insists that they want the stated amount for the player. Neymar scored 27 times in 32 appearances for his club, and at such a tender age, these are truly impressive statistics.
The problem behind such rejection is the complicated matter of regulating ownership of a player’s rights or pass. The FA bans the selling of part rights of a player in England, but this is not the case in Brazil.
Brazilian clubs can sell whatever percentage they want of a player to anyone they like. This enables teams to generate more cash and funds, without utilizing much of its own. It also generates more cash for clubs to buy better players, without taking much out of their own banks.
Neymar had a very impressive season with his current club, as he scored 27 goals. This signifies the talent and ability of the player, who at the age of 18 is scoring so many goals.
Such players do not stay with their clubs for long, as European heavyweights come knocking on the door one day or the other. Santos are aware of the fact, and therefore want to make the most of the deal.
Chelsea have released some of its key players, which include Ballack, Joe Cole and Belletti, and are looking for replacements. Neymar would be, however, for the future, as Chelsea already enjoys the services of Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba. Chelsea will want to at least hang on to their two trophies they won last season, and will want to defend them successfully.
Manager Carlo Ancelloti however aims Champions League this season, and therefore, wants to bolster his squad for such a goal. Neymar will be a perfect addition for the squad, and Chelsea will want to sign the teenage sensation sooner, as many other European clubs are interested in the Brazilian.
Therefore, Santos own only 60 percent of Neymar’s rights and the remaining 40% percent is owned by a third party known by the name of DIS Group. In that case, Chelsea is liable to pay on 60% of the 35 million Euros, which takes the price to a mere 21 million Euros. 21 million Euros is no amount for a rich club like Chelsea and, therefore, will not be much of problem.
Chelsea will want to then negotiate with DIS Group, for their 40 percent. DIS will want to increase their wealth and reap their rewards for investing into the player. Santos on the other hand, argues that a total of 35 million Euros should be deposited to them and they will later give the 40% to the DIS Group themselves.
This situation has surfaced numerous times in Brazil, and therefore restricts Santos’s ability to do so. Back in 2005, when Robinho joined Real Madrid, Real paid 30 million dollars in total, when the club required 50 million. Robinho himself owned the remaining percentage of his rights, and went to Real Madrid for no additional costs.
Chelsea are therefore waiting for a reasonable decision regarding the matter from Santos. The Blues are waiting for Neymar himself to make a decision, who supposedly has a say in his future. The player’s agents had video conference with Chelsea officials, and are to discuss terms and conditions with Neymar and his family in the coming days.
Interesting news about Neymar wouls be that when Santos rejected West Ham’s offer 2 weeks ago, Neymar’s father claimed that had it been Chelsea, Neymar would have departed.
