Premier League results: Liverpool versus Wigan Athletic- First half
The match between Liverpool and Wigan Athletic started off with a bang as Liverpool broke forward in the 4th minute. It was Luis Suarez, who played in Dirk Kuyt, but the Dutchman fell down dramatically after failing to control the ball.
Liverpool appealed to the referee for a penalty kick but the officials waved it off as the Reds continued with their attack.
In the 9th minute of the match, it was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charles-c8808 N’Zogbia, who marched on forwards for Wigan Athletic. The former Newcastle United midfielder went past two Liverpool players down the right hand side before unleashing a terrific shot.
However, N' Zogbia’s effort was wide of the Liverpool goal as the referee pointed towards a goal kick for the home side.
In the 19th minute of the match, Liverpool surged forward once again and this time Raul Meireles carried the ball for the Reds. He played it to Maxi Rodriguez, who squared the ball to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348.
However, the striker turned winger failed to get a powerful shot on Wigan’s goal as Al Habsi gathered the ball with ease.
In the 23rd minute of the match, Liverpool broke the deadlock thanks to some brilliant wing play from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678, who was “Johnny on the
spot” to fire off a venomous volley.
Raul’s volley was an unstoppable one as Al-Habsi failed to react in time to save the shot. Liverpool totally dominated the first half of the match as they forced Wigan’s back line into frequent mistakes. Nonetheless, Wigan did their best to stall Liverpool’s
offensive efforts, which were numerous to say the least.
In the 26th minute of the match, Luis Suarez was played in by Raul Meireles. The Uruguayan striker cut in from the left hand side and then tried to curl the ball into the top right hand corner of Wigan’s net.
Regardless, his shot just missed the goal by inches as Al-Habsi and co. breathed a sigh of relief.

It was an embarrassing display by Roberto Martinez's men as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Rodallega-c16414 and co. were slow in their off the ball movement and wayward with their passes. Thus the first half eventually came to a close with the score line at 1-0 to the home side.
