Premier League round up: Everton and Fulham
Everton
Everton manager David Moyes is uncertain about the future of his out-of-contract players and admits he faces a hard task to retain them by the end of the 2010-11 season.
Everton managed to finish 8th in the Premier League in 2009-10 season but have a huge task at hand in the 2010-11 season. The side is currently placed 15th in the Premier League and were facing relegation battle a few weeks ago. The
Merseyside club have already lost the services of star midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Pienaar-c34208, who joined Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-million-pound move.
Also, strikers Yakubu and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Vaughan-c17722 have been loaned out, and their deals will be finalised after the season comes to an end. In addition, many of their consistent performers would be out of their contracts by the end of the season, which includes box-to-box
midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marouane-Fellaini-c24295.
The manager has confessed that he would want to have long meetings with his squad members over the future direction of the club. A meeting is likely to take place between club chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bill-c7610 Kenwright, the board of directors and the manager in the coming
weeks over the future of the club and what sort of contracts and assurances can be offered to the players.
“It is a problem and something I will need to have a chat with the chairman and the board about as we go towards the end of the season. You have to show the players around you that you are trying to move forward,” stated the Everton Boss.
Fulham
Fulham manager Mark Hughes was happy with the positive mentality of his players in their recent draw against Aston Villa when the Cottagers managed to come back into the match twice in the 90 minutes.
Fulham were on the verge of losing the fixture on two occasions, but managed to score goals in the second half to snatch one point from the outing. The manager claimed he was delighted by his team’s performance and the way they kept the pressure on even
when there were only seconds remaining on the clock. Hughes believed that his side had every chance of taking three points in the match but was happy with the draw.
“We picked ourselves up from the own goal and restricted Villa to very few opportunities in the first half. It was a great finish by Andrew Johnson and we then really took the game to Villa and asked questions of them. We went behind again but we kept going,
weren't to be denied and showed great quality,” added the Fulham manager.
Fulham are currently 14th in the Premier League and need to keep winning in order to manage a top-ten finish. With Bobby Zamora’s arrival imminent in the coming weeks, it would only be a matter of time before they start winning more and re-establish
themselves in the top-8 of the Premier League.
