Premier League transfer Update: Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea FC, Manchester City
English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are planning to bid for FC Bordeaux’s defender Michael Ciani.
Spurs are looking to strengthen their defensive department, as the north London club are fighting both on domestic and European fronts. Tottenham are currently 5th in the Premier League and have also qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
However, manager Harry Redknapp will face a tough race with Italian Serie A side AS Roma, who are also keen on acquiring the 26-year-old’s services. It is believed that the French international’s signature will cost around £7 million.
Meanwhile, Chelsea FC are also lining up a bid thought to be worth £9 million to bring Newcastle United’s Steven Taylor to Stamford Bridge.
Taylor has been a transfer target by the west London club in the past also but this time, Roman Abramovich might be ready to break the bank to place a lucrative bid for the Magpies’ player.
The English champions are short of central defenders due to injury problems to Captain John Terry and Alex. Terry is expected to make his return this weekend against Everton FC; however the Brazilian defender is flying to South America to undergo a surgery.
The former PSV Eindhoven man was playing through the pain barrier in previous games and was advised to undergo a knee-operation. He will miss Chelsea’s crucial ties against Arsenal and Manchester United in the Premier League and is expected to return till January next year.
Carlo Ancelotti is under immense pressure to deliver positive results after the recent slip-ups in the league. The Blues are without a win in 3 matches in the Premier League and have seen United leapfrog them at the top of the Premier League. Ancelotti’s men are currently 2nd in the table; level on points with 3rd placed Arsenal and 2 points behind the Red Devils.
Manchester City are also planning to bring in a few new players in the winter transfer window to strengthen their side. It is rumoured that defender Wayne Bridge, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor will leave the Eastlands in the coming weeks.
Roberto Mancini is reportedly planning to bring Daniel Carrico to the City of Manchester Stadium from Portuguese side, Sporting Lisbon. The 22-year-old central defender has impressed the Italian manager who has been monitoring the player’s progress since last season.
City are also trying to lure SL Benfica’s David Luiz to England. However, it is believed that the deal may not be finalised after Benfica have put a hefty price tag of £25 million on the Brazilian defender.
