Premier league News- Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers
ARSENAL: Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna looked toward the humorous side of things when one of the floodlights stopped working after continued power cuts in Serbia. Sagna travelled with Arsenal to face Serbian side Partizan Belgrade and it
was expected that the match may well be cancelled owing to the power cuts, before the referee took the consent of both the other referees.
The Gunners laughed off the matter but were serious as soon as they were on the pitch. Sagna was amused by the situation and stated that when the lights went off, they had to use light from their mobile phones to make preperations for the match. The defender
added that the situation was actually very funny but they were focused as soon as they stepped on the pitch and that helped them get the comfortable win against the Serbian Champions.
ASTON VILLA: Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier is happy to have a selection headache, following the form of Carlos Cuellar. The manager however is happy with this selection dilemma and stated that such a headache is good for the health.
A headache of another kind though, where you don’t have enough players to play is not desirable. The manager praised Cuellar’s ability and stated that the player’s ability and toughness at the back reminded him of Jamie Carragher. Houllier added that Carlos’s
aerial ability is flawless and is a strong, brave centre back.
BIRMINGHAM CITY: Birmingham City has awarded new and improved contracts to the first team coaches Andy Watson and goalkeeping manager Dave Watson. Birmingham has only recently extended the contract of first team coach Alex McLeish but it
has been the untiring efforts of the Watsons who have Birmingham City extending their stay in the premier league. The goal keeping coach did a tremendous job with the now England number 1 Joe Hart and now newly signed Ben Foster. Hart always praised Dave Watson
for his efforts to establish him as a first choice goal keeper with Birmingham City, where Hart managed to keep a 7 game clean sheet.
"First and foremost, everything revolves around Alex and once the club came to his agreement on his contract, then we could move forward together. Myself and Dave were delighted the owners looked at our contracts. I think that was a recognition of the work
we are all trying to do here and what we have done as a group over the past couple of years. We came back up from the Championship and are trying to get established as a Premier League side, as difficult as that is, and will continue to work hard to achieve
that.", claimed Andy Watson.
BLACKBURN ROVERS: Blackburn Rovers Ladies manager Adam Lakeland has praised the performance of Krystal Parker for her untiring effort in the goaless draw against Nottingham Forrest. The young goalkeeper managed to kepe her third successful
clean sheet and managed to make two outstanding saves that denied Nottingham to take the lead. The manager stated that in the previous games, the goalkeeper just had to stand as there were little or no proper shots on target. However, on the weekend, Krystal
proved her self as a top notch goal keeper and has established herself as the first choice. It is actually good to see the development of football for the ladies as each club now holds a women division. Adam Lakeland has managed to take the side to new heights
as the side currently top the ranking of women’s premier league table.
