Premier league Round Up: Aston Villa – 5th January 2011
Aston Villa Chief Executive, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Faulkner has backed current manager Gerard Houllier to turn things around this season, after falling dangerously near to the relegation zone. The side is currently clear of the danger zone following their impressive 3-3
draw at Stamford Bridge, this Sunday.
Houllier has not been accepted well by the Aston Villa supporters, who still believe that Martin O Neill did a better job. However, Faulkner believes that Houllier is providing the club with a much needed stability since O Neill’s departure and is behind
the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 boss.
"I believe in what we are doing. This is a great club. We know we are going to have periods of adversity when things don't go our way. But, if you are well run, you will come through those and emerge better and stronger. We are in it for the long term,”
The Chief added that they expected something like this owing to the shock resignation of Martin O Neill. The resignation came just days before the start of the season and no one could predict what would happen next. Faulkner claimed that they have full belief
in the manager and the club’s overall direction and it would be a matter of time before they get back to their midtable position. The league has become too tight to call this season and there are more than 7 teams stuck up on points between 19-22.
“We want to go into the summer working with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 to develop the club with changes to the culture. You must put everything in place to create and environment where you can win," stated Faulkner.
Aston Villa face a tough test when they face an in form Sunderland today. Both these sides have all the makings of finishing in the top half of the table, with Sunderland looking to pave their way into the Champions league spots. The Black Cats managed an
impressive 3-0 win over Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 this weekend and would want to carry that form to Villa Park to face a rejuvenated Aston Villa.
