Premier league Round Up - Blackpool
Blackpool coach Ian Holloway has ruled out doing something over the odds for any of the players out of contract at Blackpool.
The newly promoted premier league sides are currently in contract negotiations with two of their star midfielders- David Vaughan and Matt Gilks. Both of them have been exceptional for Blackpool this season, but Holloway has ruled out going over and above
to land lucrative offers to both of the midfielders.
Blackpool were considered as the whipping boys of the league since their promotion into the premier league but have proved much more than that. The side has managed victories over the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Wigan Athletic in their first season with the Big
Boys. The manager is well aware of the importance of the midfield pair and would want nothing more to offer the best he could, but that doesn’t mean he would be held hostage by agents over player contracts.
"I had a phone call the other day from an agent I've got two players with. Neither of them is playing at the moment, but he was very nice to me, talking about their future and what they might want. If they had longer contracts, like their agent wanted them
to have, they could be moaning now, and they could be causing all sorts of trouble because they're not being picked,” claimed the Blackpool boss.
The manager added that had he awarded long term contracts, it would have been unfair to the players and that is something he doesn’t want. The manager also confirmed that he had the trust of the owner and had the absolute power to call most of the cards
at the club.
Holloway explained that he has already offered contracts to both Vaughan and Gilks for new contracts and want them to stay to help Blackpool prosper in the premier league. However, he would not offer something he won’t be able to give to everyone and cannot
push the owner to give funds that are just not possible.
