Premier league Round-Up: Manchester United
Red Devils assistant manager Mike Phelan has full faith in his squad to cope up with a hectic schedule coming up during the Christmas Period.
Manchester United are currently top of the table with a match to spare but head into a busy schedule. The side faced Sunderland this weekend on Boxing Day, followed by Birmingham City two days later. This is followed by a West Bromwich fixture on New Year’s
Day. Such a schedule may jeopardise United’s undefeated streak in the premier league but the assistant manager had full faith in his side.
While talking to a website, the assistant manager claimed that this period comes up every season and players are on auto pilot. The squad’s body has been tuned to take so much fatigue and has been boosted by the break they had owing to harsh weather conditions.
“If the squad is fully fit and everybody's raring to go then we'll plan over the Christmas period as we always have done. We have a big enough squad to cope with most eventualities. There's a game every two or three days - not too dissimilar to what it's
like in the season, to be fair - but it can be a hectic period," stated the assistant manager.
Should United end the current year as the table tops, there would be no stopping them in the new year. It’s a well known fact that Manchester United pick up their real form in the second half of the season. However, United would have to be on their toes
in defence as well in order to record favourable results. The side is not looking to emulate the “Invincibles” season held by Arsenal and would want to land the Premier league trophy rather than be second best. With most of the United squad fully fit and raring
to go, the hectic schedule may well be coped with ease by United, who have been nothing but the best every season in this time of year.
