Premier league news- Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City
ARSENAL: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed the performances of newly signed striker Marouane Chamakh. The summer transfer from French club Bordeaux has scored twice in his four Premier League appearances, which has left a good impression
on his new employers. "He has done very well. I believe he has a love for the physical game, a love for challenges. He loves contact and is good in the air. Chamakh is an intelligent player as well and he has adapted quickly because he is a real team player.
He likes to work for the team, so even if he misses one or two things, he does so much that overall his contribution is very high.", claimed Arsenal long serving manager Arsene Wenger.
Chamakh recently scored against Portuguese Champions Braga, which was his first goal using his feet at Arsenal. Arsenal thrashed Braga 6-0 in their UEFA Champions league opener at the Emirates stadium, but the man of the game was club skipper Cesc Fabragas.
The Spanish midfielder scored a brace while he assisted three goals in Arsenals 6 goal triumph. Chamakh has performed on the highest level and has not made the Gunners miss usual first team striker, Robin Van Persie, who is out owing to injury till November.
ASTON VILLA: Former Celtic midfielder and current club captain, Stiliyan Petrov has confirmed that players at Villa are looking forward to playing under new manager Gerard Houllier and expect him to bring some much needed stability back
to the club.
Aston Villa were without a permanent manager from the start of the new season when Martin O'Neill resigned. Reserves manager Kevin MacDonald was appointed as a caretaker, but was not considered as a fulltime replacement as Houllier signed a three-year deal.
However, Villa still waits on the arrival of the former Liverpool manager, following his commitments with the France Football Federation.
Houllier worked as a technical director there and the club captain awaits the arrival for the legendary manager. Petrov claimed that things have already started to become complicated for the yet to arrive manager. He added that things were even confusing
for Kevin MacDonald but expects that upon the arrival of the new manager, the club can improve in departments where they have been lacking thus far in the season.
BIRMINGHAM CITY: Birmingham City player James McFadden has expressed his gratitude towards manager Alex McLeish for resting his trust in him despite recent censure of him in Scotland. The 27-year-old insists that he still holds the same
hunger to do well at Birmingham City. McFadden was replaced at half-time during Scotland famous 2-1 triumph in the Euro 2012 qualifier against low lying Liechtenstein, following claims in the Scottish media surrounding the dip in the player’s performance.
However, playing for his club Birmingham City over the weekend, McFadden performed on the highest possible level, denying Liverpool the chance to find the winning goal. McFadden was smart enough to not pull himself into a war with his critics and claimed
that a lot has already been said and wouldn’t want to discuss the situation.
Since his arrival from international duty, McFadden as happy with the support of his gaffer and claimed that McLeish had provided him with the much needed backing. McFadden then thanked his manager for showing faith and for giving him the opportunity to
play, despite the reports. The 27 year old concluded his statement, stating that he doesn’t want to further add anything to the critics’ comments and vowed to concentrate on Birmingham’s well being in the premier league.
